Re: Anyone offering precompiled binaries of latest (or recen

OK, the exultstudio problem is simply enough: It doesn't find "exult_studio.glade". It looks for "data/exult_studio.glade", but the file really is in mapedit.

So, to start exult studio, I did this (from the Exult source directory):
./mapedit/exult_studio -x mapedit

Re: Anyone offering precompiled binaries of latest (or recen

Regarding the Pentagram build system: I think it's overly complicated. It could be simplified a lot (and the resulting binary be made smaller) by not using internal frameworks but rather simply static linking the various dependencies (as we do with ScummVM). I.e., don't build all those libs as share...

I agree with some of the things you said, and disagree with some others. (For background info: I am the OS X 'porter' of Exult, made the old OS 7/8/9 port, am developing for Macs for many years now and am very much familiar with the OS X file system layout guidelines, thank you :-). Re: Can't get OSX version to launch

That sounds as if the binary is linking against 10.3 only code, and you are probably using 10.2. The depenendcy is probably introduced by the C++ library (we don't use those functions listed in the error message directly). As such, there is no simple way for me to produce a 10.2 binary. (For the 'cl...

Re: OSX Version Requires Fink?!

. Why do people always have to forget their manners when writting on the net? Anyways, I guess that means I can now forget mine, too :-) First off: there is a fixed, static linked binary online now. Not linking it statically was simply a mistake in the build process, no "evil intention", a...

If you downloaded a 1.00 buiild of Exult for Mac OS X somewhere, note that it is *NOT* official in any way and not supported by us. Go and ask the guy who made it if you need help....

Re: Build problem for Mac OS X

You most definitly *can* create files starting with a dot in Mac OS X. Those files are then (as on all Unix systems) invisible.

And normally, "exult.cfg" (w/o a leading dot) works fine over here (with my own build; I didn't try the build used here).

Re: OS X 1.0 release?

Maybe when I get back home, I can try and see if it is possible to compile exult on 10.1 and have it running well on 10.2, however, that would require me to install a 10.1 system first, then install all the latest tools & libs (e.g. SDL 1.2.5 which is a must). So I am not likely to do that. And ...

Oh it depends a lot on which Ataris you had. My Mega STE had 4 MB (and even the old STs like the 1024 ST could have up to 4 MB), and it had 16 Mhz, and a Cache, *and* the blitter! One hell of a machine =) But later machines, like the TT and the Falcon, could have up to (or maybe even more than?) 16 ...

Fink doesn't overwrite anything you already have, as that would be a very bad thing indeed. It installs all its stuff into /sw by default. If you manually installe stuff before in /usr/local/, you may want to get rid of that.

Beni,

I really can't help you with that since you don't give enough information. You don't say what compiler you used to compile it, you don't say which sources you got, basically, nothing.

If you could fill in some of these gaps, there'd be a slim chance I can help. :-)

Actually, the game window size does not really depend on the resolution. Rather in a bigger resolution (which is squeezed into the same space as the lower ones), it *appears* smaller. The OS X version I released doesn't work for creating a new game. This seems to be caused by a compiler bug. I gotta investigate it & make a new release, but so far I had no time for that.
