Web map of U7

Post by Nikolai Faaland »

Playing through U7 with Exult the other day (for, I will admit, the third time), I decided to use its ability to output a map. Looking at the produced tiles, I thought, wouldn't it be cool to see all of this at once without having to deal with an enormous image?

So I made it happen. I thought the Exult community might enjoy it.

Thanks, Exult team, for making this possible. Now back to playing through for a fourth time.

Wow...
Great job... the fun map is the SI map, its a huge mess... who knows how they would have organized it all had they atually been allowed to finish the game... its looking pretty crammed already...

Hmm...it doesn't seem to work with Firefox. Works with Internet Exploiter though :)

Wonderful! Would you be able to remove that earth-map background, it would be just perfect.

Yeah, all I get is a satellite map of the Earth.

Hey SB-X,

I just noticed...you're not too far away from me :) But anyway, as I posted above, I had to use Internet Explorer instead of Firefox.

Nice work. Too bad it doesn't work in Firefox, though :-(

This reminds me of Ian Albert's maps, particularly his U7 maps which he too dumped with Exult. He has also made a viewer for the whole map, but only for BG and in Flash.

Thanks for the feedback. It's supposed to work in Firefox, but I suppose it would have been helpful to confirm that! I'll see if I can figure out what's wrong. There's a few other things I could do that would be fun, too, if I can find the time.

That flash map is neat, very smooth, and cool supersampling effect on zoom. Mine zooms in further though ;)

I guess you know why they don't let you sail a ship in SI now, eh?

those are really neat... being able to zoom in and out is rather interesting for exploring the maps

I just fixed the bug with Firefox. I was using an undeclared variable (copy and paste error, sigh). I guess IE is more forgiving of such things, for better or for worse. Anyway, it should display normally now. I also added some labels, which was fun.

Thanks again.

Wow that was pretty rad..

I loved going through Serpent Isle with Exult and figuring out where I had to teleport myself around.. That map was just nuts with all the crap crammed in there..

I wonder though why did they have to do it all on one big map like that??
Couldnt they have put the dungeons and whatnot into separate components kinda like the old Ultimas had the Dungeon/Towne/Underworld/etc disks??

The towns I can see wouldnt work the 'old way' because of the new Ultima 6 style geography but I dont get why they couldnt have done that with some of the underground levels and whatnot instead of just hiding them inside mountains and the ocean on the main map.. Although now that I think about it, I wouldnt have wanted to wait for a new floor to load going up and down stairs.. Guess the fluid motion of moving around wouldve been comprised??
