Forge of Virtue not working...HELP!

I have the original Ultima 7 and Forge of Virtue floppy disks and have them installed correctly.

I start Exult and enter the main menu of The Black Gate and there I see the title screen complete with the Forge of Virtue title as it should be. So far so good.

Now I start a new game and try to start the Forge of Virtue quest but never get the chance. In the original, Lord British tells you about an island that has risen out of the see and gives you the deed to a ship and a small gem. He does niether. He never says anything about it no matter what I do.

I know the FoV is installed as I can travel to the island and all of it is there, but I can't do anything. No dialogs work or NPCs, just an empty island. I also remember an earthquake in the original that Iolo said you should ask LB about right at the begining in Trinsic. This doesn't happen either.

Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Hm, search the forum for this. I think it involved renaming a file named "static/usecode.new" or something similar to "static/usecode".

I did do a search and found nothing.

Those of you who have played FoV, did you do it with the original disks? Or with the CD version?

I wonder if there is a difference...

You did not search properly. Make sure your search is for messages of "All dates", not just "30 days old".

The deal is that the installer, for some unknown reason, forgets to rename/overwrite the most important part of the game. usecode is the file that contains all the scripts, dialogs and so on of the game and when you install the add-on, usecode needs to be updated, too.

Edit: My mistake. Confused things and didn't see clearly. Most likely the original handled the usecode.newproperly and therefore the add-on installation didn't need to overwrite the original usecode.
