Avatar needs a ladder?

Hi there! After ages, I've started playing SI via exult again (CVS from just before the introduction of soft scrolling) with the SI fixes mod on linux/ppc. I must say I am amazed, exult has come a long way, and it even was quite good when I used it ~3 years ago, good work.

However, I found something which I believe is a rather amusing bug: on many signposts (at least all the upper signs on post with two of them) are too high for the Avatar to read without stepping on something. Although I find it amusing to imagine the poor guy having to climb on his shield each time he wants to read a sign (or asking his companions to give him a lift), I'm pretty sure this wasn't the way the original behaved. Is this a known bug, broken by design or could it be linux/ppc specific?

Now as you mention it, I think it was introduced with the changed grabbing distance some weeks ago. The workaround with an item to step upon is a great idea, I used hackmover... because the Avatar also can't read books or take items from the upper shelves in rooms.

I found the cause for this; as for the case of the orb of the moons et al, it will take me a while to commit as I finish all the changes I am working on.

Well, you could leave the bug in and add a quest for a ladder Btw, I think I found another bug: I was in monitor, went to bed with the barkeeper and next morning, I swear Shamino had lost his magic bow... I mean not merely disequiped, but really gone from the inventory.
