I speak with zsnes devs a lot... mostly pagefault. Heh... I even named ZSNES implementation of hq3x... but right now it is still isn't an official w32 release. 1.36 doesn't implement it. However in my testing I found it to be quite a bit faster and looked much better then 2xSAI and SuperEagle, at least on (relatively) fast systems.
Most (all?) of these advanced scalers use pattern detection to function. As such, they have limited use on natural looking images, and would be of limited use in video-processing software. That's not to say entirely useless i.e. they might be useful for cell animation, but in general cases they wont do much.
would it be possible to have a standalone version of the filter and feed it a screenshot of Exultima to see what the result would look like? And while one's at it, why not post the result here too?
hq3x is much more sophisicated than Scale3x. It will work in many more cases than Scale3x does.
It actually works quite a bit differently to Scale2x/3x, (Super)2xSaI and SuperEagle. All those purely work in RGB values and only look at pixels that are identical. However, hq3x works on both HSL and RGB values, and works on pixels that are similar, not identical.
Just so you know, Exult's scaling system will require a number of changes before something like hq3x can added. So, it will be a while before it's impelemented. But i do indent to implement it.
Been away for a while. Thanks for the replies, tis good to hear that it might be added. Actually this is the first time i have ever played ultima 7 and im liking the ole english hehe
