Alagner still alive

I just talked to the wisps (gave them the info from the notebook), and spoke to the time lord. then I went back to Alagner, and when I walked into his lab I did hear the Guarding "thank me" for the the info. however, Alagner was still up and about. will it be ok if I just go through the game, since the guardian appears to think that he did kill him? or will it screw up further events?

It will not screw things up. This happened sometimes in the original U7 as well, and is not an Exult bug. Alagner is supposed to lie on the floor, cut up like the two other murders you've encountered previously, by the way.

I had a similiar issue with Alanger in the original game, not Exult. I would come back to New Magencia to return the notebook and see him chopped up. Then, much later in the game I would come back again and find the body gone and Alanger back to normal. One time when I was playing the game several years ago, I saw him standing outside Trinsic on the east side, but he wouldn't talk. I knew it was him because I used the NPC editor cheat and found out who he was. I just killed him and he had some potions. When I would go to New Magencia he would be back home, but the dead body would stay there and not respawn or anything.

Alagner is a pretty resilient guy!

Alagner is really the usecode riddle of life and death.

I experienced this, back in 1993: I went to the Empath Abbey, in what was practically my first real travel through U7's Britannia. There is a big big tree in front of the Abbey, and hanging from it, there was this sage. I was sure it was part of the game: a hanged body from the tree, yet no one ever mentioned it. I practically forgot it until I discovered the cheats (one year after or something). So, with the hack mover I unstuck it, discovering that it wasn't a corpse. I spoke him: and he was Alagner.

He also has a tendency of running around on his own mutilated corpse. Those wacky sages and their tricks!

Maybe Alagner is the Ultima equivalent of Neo in Matrix... :)

Nah, The Avatar is Neo -- Just like Neo, he is controlled from the Real World. In fact, once Neo is freed, he is an avatar whenever he returns to The Matrix.

Alagner, on the other hand, comes back after he dies by exploiting a glitch in "The Game". Defanately smacks of an Agent to me....

Alagner: Good bye, Hero From Another World!
Hero: My.....name....is......The Avatar!!!

Are you sure it isn't because Alagner smokes too much crack?
Seriously I wonder why origin hadn't fixed that bug?

Isn't origin after all the first company which released patches for it's games? I am not sure, however everyone knows the painful history of Ultima 9, for example. Released with showstopping bugs, of which - the lead programmer stated - they knew the existance!!
And what about the latest titles in the Wing Commander serie?

Origin has always been a step ahead of most gaming companies, but at the cost of bugs and hardware requirements.

History is one of mankinds most painfull things recorded (hitler, ultima 9 bugs etc...)

Let us not repeat history and keep latest games as bugless as possible.

Well, WC-Prophecy wasn't too bad in regards to bugs.

The only WC I had very many crashes with was WC2. I'm over half-way through playing WC3 right now under Win98, and there hasn't been a single crash yet.

Pool of Radiance isnt so bad with bugs on my pc.. at least not the newest version. The one thing is that I have to set my Cable modem on standby or PoR returns to the desktop when the modem says "hi and I am still here" to the network.. rather annoying when you have a fight.
And the WC's never showed bugs for me. And U9 was rather stable too.
