This thread will start off small, but it will build up over time
wasnt satisfied with the current musket graphic... looked a bit soft for U7.. soo... tada
Male sprite
Female sprite
please note that the hand piece is there to show it extended around the musket... if thats not possible jsut say so and i can change them some
more will be added when I finish them... i'm going to focus on the ones that just dont seem right to me.. and if anything I post looks good enough, use it.. i dont mind

It looks like a real bad-ass musket...
Making paperdoll gfx is hard, tedious work. First, there's the drawing. Then comes the coordinate wrangling which always seems endless. I tried my hand at it and might take it up again in the future (it's going to be a very boring summer, I can just feel it). I like making alternate outfits (not just armor and weapons). It's a lot of work, but very rewarding to see your stuff in the game!
Another plus side is, that it improved my own kisekae art. Whenever I was working on a set, I'd think..."Well, at least it's not those damned Ultima VII paperdolls!" and suddenly, the project would seem that much easier...
I really like what you did with Trellek's gump, too. The shading is lovely.

well thank you
like ive said before, in other topics, im no programmer.. and I barely understand Exult Studio... id never be able to get the sprites into the program on my own.. so i figured whatever i get done i should post here... this is the place where the masters of the program dwell, after all

from left to right by row:
Male Leather Collar, Gorget, and Magical Gorget
Female Leather Collar, Gorget, and Magic Gorget
BG Fellowship Medallion, and the four types of Gold Lockets
yes, I know the last row is all just recolors, but its recolors for the sake of consistancy

So where do we download these and how do we put them into the game?

download: right click on the image and save image as.
How to put in the game: someone of the Exult team (preferably wjp) has to add them to the data files and point exult to them. When this is done, you need to download a new Exult snapshot.

obviously not a paperdoll sprite, but insead an in-game sprite for the magic cloak in the SI paperdoll graphics that, as far as ive seen, is not only unused but doesnt have a normal in-game equivalent

next!
various rings!
in order:
enchanted ethereal ring
normal ethereal ring
blue (crystal) ring
gold ring
on teh enchanted one, the blue and green should cycle (like the non-paperdoll version)... normal ethereal should only have the blue cycle

HOLY NIGHT OF THE LIVING RECOLOR.. lol
yeah.. not impressive.. or interesting.. just did this for consistancy with the Black Gate in-game sprite for swamp boots... basically its add this, or replace the in-game graphic with the greenish ones from Serpent Isle.... which, honestly, is what id suggest.. they look cooler

yet another "no biggie" one.. im still sick but prolly gonna work on the oil flask tonight at least
should be obvious... decided to do this just because the ones that are still in exult from way back when (when they were added) are a bit.... dated now... considering how far the client has progressed.... please realized that these are most likely even temporary for me, sitting there until ive drawn completely new ones

er.. and i dont know the color limitations on the faces.. like at all.. so if they need to be less to be useable, tell me, I know darn well how to touch them down without loosing quality

if you mean the set of faces, its for BG
try scrolling through the avatar faces available when you start a BG game in Exult and you should see what im getting at

bottom line is the current, top is mine
and yeah, theyre not paperdoll graphics.. sorry for the confusion if thats what you were confused about ^^;

The faces look pretty good, but they use colors not in the U7 palette. When dithered back to the palette, result is rather ugly... I suppose manual dithering will might work, though.

hmm.... give me an example of the u7 pallette that they would use and like i said, ill gladly do it
Re: New Paperdoll Graphics

(er... a screenshot of the appopriate pallette line taken from Exult Studio would sufficie... I simply have no idea which one it would use ^^; )

and.. of course.... there's already the more difficult option of increasing the number of colors that could be displayed to match that of the SI faces..

uh... or.... (and this is most likely)... we forget I ever did it and i focus on paperdoll stuff instead, as I obviously suck at the faces stuff ^^;

the oil flask/flaming oil
modled on a paperdoll that also has my leather collar (always more economical to reuse old images
)
i figured it would be thrown in a way similar to a sling or bola, hence the rope (which would probably be wet to keep it from catching on fire).. i think it works well
male, and female
feedback/criticism open and welcome as always.. lol..

I'm not quite sure what you intend to change with the faces apart from clipping parts of their hair. And why the need is there to make the faces bigger at all.
Re: New Paperdoll Graphics
Posted: Sun Jun 05, 2005 9:37 am
by Crysta the Elf
its not necessarily making them bigger, its making them clearer... and a lot less ugly
it might not seem like a big thing to you... but anyone like me that deals closely with pixel art couldnt play using the portraits in their current state...know I cant at least.... they're quite glaringly hideous..
i know the change doesnt seem great.. and it sure isnt... but its a definite polishing step...
like i said before, im not even boting with any faces again in any form... i may be good at DRAWING faces, but PIXELING em seems beyond me
and yes... i know it really seems like im just being anal about it.... maybe I am.. maybe not... but i do know that ive been following the whole exult project long enough to care how things evolve with it

and by "play using the portraits in their current state" i quite simply mean just these that were added so that the multiracial avatars could be used in BG

Hey- if you use Paint Shop Pro and still need the right palette, I have it. It has always worked for me when I did my paperdoll art.

Okay! Well, I made a zip and posted it on my webpage, if you want to download it.
http://www.fortunecity.com/rivendell/xe ... 4/zip.html
There's nothing else on the webpage, so I added a picture and a ginchy background to jazz it up a bit. Simply download the zip and load the palette into any picture you need compatible with the Ultima VII palette.
Everything should be in order- it has always worked for me with my ipack work, though I had to fix it twice for some reason (hence the filename- ultimafix2.pal).

there.. with the palette in order (thanks again! ^^)
and i jsut realized i never made frames for the weapons on your belt/bck (As needed).. the musket is easy enough to do so i wont bother with that.. but gonna have to draw a belt frame for the oil flask sometime today

Wait.... Doesn't SI have the same pallette as BG? If so, why does the fourth one look so bland on the top compared to the bottom?
