Iolo is a real guy!

Post by mjohnston »

...I've been wondering about this for a while now, and thought that here might be a good place to ask as I've read many posts in which people seem to have a lot of knowledge about the history of the Ultima series and characters and such...

it may seem odd to some people, but I know that the character Iolo is based on a real person who goes by the name Iolo at historical re-enactment sort of events... I met him a couple times, and own one of his fine crossbows (he has a website: www.crossbows.net, which I am in no way affiliated with or trying to promote, just thought people may find it interesting)..

I read earlier in the avatar mod discussion that Lord British's portrait is supposed to look like Richard Garriot.

So, I'm wondering if anyone knows if other main characters in the game are known to be based on real people?

This is a well known factoid (well, well known to "most" Ultima fans at least). See here for the full list.
