Forgotten World
Should any care (about anything related to U9), Forgotten World has released a demo of what they've done so far to enhance Ascension. Haven't had a chance to play with it myself yet. Maybe this weekend.

Looking at those screenshots... not bad, not bad at all. While I will always prefer the original U9 as seen in those old screenshots ( I followed U9 religiously until the disappointment of the final release). Very lush...
It looks like they are attempting to fix some inaccuracies, such as the Empath Abbey situation. I used to watch the site, but with this update, I'll be watching!

Re: Forgotten World
Well, looks like I won't be playing with the demo any time soon. It doesn't work with 64-bit Windows 7, unless someone knows or can find a way.
Re: Forgotten World
The launcher doesn't work for me on Wine as well
Do you have problems with the launcher, or does U9 itself not work on 64bit?

Re: Forgotten World
U9 works just fine in 64 bit. I mean, given that it's U9 of course. The launcher itself doesn't seem to do anything, not even try to find the U9 install directory. I'm not even sure if the VB6 runtime even installs properly. Supposedly it's supposed to work with 64-bit Win7, but it's Microsoft that says it should. I'm way more comfortable with *nix OSs, but I guess I'd be wasting my time trying it with Wine.
Re: Forgotten World
At first glance, it seems you need the VBruntime stuff from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
On Wine I noticed that I needed comdlg32 to make the launcher work. Extracting the cmdlg32.cab from the above download, extracting then cmdlg32.ocx from the cab and executing “regsvr32 comdlg32.ocx” made the launcher work.
The same needed for mscomctl.cab and from it the mscomctl.ocx.

Re: Forgotten World
Thanks. To date I've only been able to locate the vbruntime 3 installer, which doesn't seem to really install on 64-bit Win7 (at least, the updater fails to recognize that it is, and so apparently does the FW launcher). Maybe the version 5 installer will actually work, but I won't be trying it today.
Re: Forgotten World
Doesn't the link to the MS site provid you with the correct stuff?

Re: Forgotten World
Yes. I was referring to my previous attempts over the weekend to find anything that would work.
