Batlin's death

Post by Max aka Moscow Dragon »

Looks like the whole rgcus newsgroup is moved here :-), so, I'm asking this here.

What are the versions of what went wrong with Batlin, why his sorcery failed and why he died?

His last words were - "The Banes, they..."

One only version I have is that he tried to do a _Chaos_ ceremony in the _Order_ shrine.

Another is from Torissio's, he did not tell Batlin all information about Worm Gems. The Gems were too weak to hold the Banes if not bathed in Chaos waters.

Yeah, I suspected that all along. He had the wrong blackrock serpent, I guess (look at the inlay on the ground and compare that to the serpent found on Batlins body.)

I thought the developers made us think the Guardian did it?

Guess the Guardian really toned down in U9..... his powers being VERY limited in U9

Yeah, but he killed somebody with just a thought in U9.

A person, hell, he annihilated Skara Brae with a thought.

Well, *technically* the mayor of Scara Brae annihilated the whole town, by getting the recipe for chicken soup - errr, I mean "liche removal" wrong.

But I think we should blame the Gaurdian anyway - he's big and red.

That destruction of Skara Brae with a thought was a reference to U9

what's wrong with big red people with a tendency for megalomaniacy?

I can't remember how the Guardian killed Samhayne now. wasn't that just by thinking about it? Very Darth Vader-esque. Use the force, shiny red dude, use the force....

More or less. He shot a big colorful bolt of something at him, inside
the Guardian's/Blackthorn's/Mondain's castle.

He also killed that mage in Valoria. Which doesn't explain why he didn't kill that old bastard Lord British :)

You SHOULD know by now that killing LB isn't easy even if you're in the same dimension ;)

Actually it's simple. All it takes is a small rectangle of gold.

Aye, but It deemed me that there was a distinct lack of shiny golden rectangles in Ultima IX.. I could err, but perhaps LB learned from his mistake (I wonder how often he died, after all there was almost always a Ressurrection Spell in the Ultima's) and banned the usage of golden rectangular signs in his realm.
Or the LB in Ultima IX is a fake, a decoy for the real Lord British who took up the disguise as a lunatic prisoner in the dungeon under the castle, controlling the fake through the crown of telepathy..

British death in u9 was a little more sophisticated than a knock to the head. Poisoned bread is more an assassins tool. :)

Yes. Although oddly enough, when I used the poisoned bread the guards
never came after me. I always thought that was weird.

Uh, I don't think the guardian is a megalomaniac. Considering his power, he is perfectly reasonable... 8)

I'd have to agree with that. :)
