Installing U7 on WinXPSP1

Post by cliffyman »

Hello,

This seems like quite a newbie question but I couldn't find an answer to it in the docs... what is the best way to install U7 itself on my WinXP system? When I run install.exe on disk 1 from my command prompt I get an error:

DOS ERROR
Drive not ready
on drive E
Make sure that the drive latch is closed.

My floppy is of course the A drive, the E drive is one my optical drives...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

*smacks forehead*

I'm gonna chalk that up to being 1:30 AM here when I made that post... :)

Thanks for your help... install is proceeding right now...

I had the same problem (welt on forehead throbbing).

So it starts to install: Now installing ...

but then a popup appears saying "Please insert disk #1 into drive A: Press any key to continue, ESC to cancel..."

Is this indicative of faulty media? These disks are pretty old.

Nevermind--I was using my backup disk. I dug up my originals and it works!

Hmm... my original U7 disks barfed years ago and all I have left are my CDs. Any chance you can copy me the contents of certain disks? I want to see if I can restore mine...
