Error with Test of Courage

I was about to undergo the test of courage. When I entered the test and picked the door, the mage who summons the lich(and holds the key to the next room) was nowhere to be found. I left the test and reentered, and the baby on the altar had disappeared, and I was attacked by undead as usual, but the mage was still nowhere in sight. I tried unlocking the next door with a lockpick and even casted unlock magic, neither of which worked. Even reloading the game had no effect. The mage just doesnt appear? How can I fix this or get around it? Please tell me I dont have to start a new game.

If I'm not mistaken, there's always a duplicate of the mage's corpse lying in that room. If memory serves, it's near the right hand red moongate. On that corpse is a copy of the key.

Failing that, you could always hackmove the avatar past the locked door, hackmove the door out of the way, delete the door, or use Alt-T to teleport your party past the door.
