Ultima X: Odyssey

Post by Adrian Powici »

www.play.com lists Ultima X: Odyssey in its list of future PC releases for 2004.

Anyone know what this is?

Despite everyone being against UO these days, especially "ex-users" like myself (I say that because it was so damn addictive), the game was really fun and had alot of elements I miss. The only things that attributed to me leaving was the fact that EA runs the show (they clearly suck arse) and lack of player events to do with the supposed 'story' they keep babling on about. I swear Lord British has returned and been kidnapped 4 times now, all relating to the current contract Richard Garriot has with EA. Whenever he spits the dummy, EA take LB out of the game.

It wasn't just this that turned me off UO but more likely how they charge players $13 US a month, which translates to like $19 AUS for a game that is over 6 years old. They have made a damn killing off that game, yet still charge players for addon's. Like that wasn't enough, EA do not ever ever ever return your emails. If you get banned for some misunderstanding, and wish explain yourself to EA, there is a link for it and you'll type in your message etc... 1 and a half years later no reply.

The game has been patched so many times, it's like a patchwork quilt. It's buggy and unreliable at best. Such a pity too because I believe it could have been such a brilliant game if Origion hadn't sold their soul to the devil (EA). Such a damn pity :(

I absolutely agree with this. They are using an outdated game engine which has been patched over and over. It is too bad that Richard Garriot sold his company to EA. I could only imagine what the Ultima series would have evolved into, rather than what it has become.

I still play UO on UOGamers, a shard managed by the same people creating the excellent emu RunUO. I'm finding it quite excellent.

My dream would be to play some of the old Ultimas using the UO engine... if that could ever be possible to script.

(Lets try this again)

Well, I had a look around uXo now. Forget the offical page EA seemingly in panic scribed together, it tells you nothing. (Hey, you guys!! Bring out an onlinegame, fine BUT DON'T FORGET A PAGE ABOUT IT SO PEOPLE KNOW!!!)

Not having played the game yet, well, it's a new Ultima. Parts are U-Lore, parts are new, like it has been with all Ultimas before. And some brought huge changes, think back to U6. Or U8, which also was in a "new world".

Being a UO player AND a Dragon, I quite like the focus they put on the Virtues here even if it's too late for Ultima to safe the Virtues there...

All in all: Let them try, perhaps it will even get better then UO.
