Re: OT: Was U9 really THAT bad?
Don't know if anyone has cracked the speech file, but some years ago some people figured out that there are a lot of files for terrain, items, etc. that aren't a part of the final game. In some cases they're test maps. Some are early, incomplete versions of the final surface map. Others are what wou...

Re: Chaos Heirophant - Summon Shade
Yeah, it was working before make install. And the path was the same including the case (when I build a new snapshot I just copy the music and sfx files from one data folder to the other), just not specified in exult.cfg before I had done make install (although, again, specifying data and data/music ...

Re: Build error (Intel MacOSX)
Dominus, that's definitely where it is on my Mac. Syndicate, maybe it really only needs the static folder. Me, I'm lazy. I just drag the whole game folder onto the hard drive. Anyway, it makes everything handy if I ever want to bang my head against DOSBox again any time soon (the day I get that to p...

Re: Chaos Heirophant - Summon Shade
Well, that worked but I had to go into /content/sifixes/src rather than just /content/sifixes. Also ran into something a little unexpected in that after doing make install the digital audio wouldn't play until I added paths to data and data/music to exult.cfg.

Re: Chaos Heirophant - Summon Shade
Apparently not. I do all right usually if I've got reasonably complete directions (or informative-enough errors as when I was trying to get Exult just plain built in OS X) but this is looking like a case of needing step-by-step starting from the point after extracting the snapshot archive. Obviously...

Re: Build error (Intel MacOSX)
When you say you have the static folder installed, do you mean you only have that folder and not all the original game data on your hard drive? If you did copy all the original game data, did you edit exult.cfg to set the paths? BTW, which version of OS X are you using? 10.4, 10.3, 10.2, or earlier?...

Re: Build error (Intel MacOSX)
Looks like you've run into much of what I did when I was building Exult (although I don't think I remember anything about freetype, but then I was struggling with it off and on for a long time). But that crash, I've never had that. There's another thread (Getting U7 gamedat folder on OSX?) about doi...

Re: Getting U7 gamedat folder on OSX?
Since Pentagram ran just fine without changing permissions of the original game data, I tried it with Exult and same thing. Maybe it's not so much permissions, in this case, as maybe the version of Exult. I'm using 1.4 snapshots. Perhaps 1.2 is different. Or perhaps the difference is in whether you'...

Re: Chaos Heirophant - Summon Shade
Speaking of which, how do you get this to work in Linux or OS X? The directions say that one option is to copy the contents of the data folder to the patch folder for SI. And of course I've added a path to that in exult.cfg. There's got to be more because just doing that doesn't seem to work.

Re: Getting U7 gamedat folder on OSX?
wjp, I'm not sure why. I'm going on the very unscientific principle of 'it worked when I did this'. One thing that's maybe semi-interesting if not semi-relevant is I set up Pentagram yesterday and for an experiment did not bother changing the permissions and that works fine (so far). Of course that'...

Re: Getting U7 gamedat folder on OSX?
There's an easier way. When you just copy the files the permissions for owner are read and write but for group they are read only. That's why Exult has a problem if you just copy the files over. The group permissions also need to be read and write. That needs to be changed for every file and folder ...

Re: Exult on intel macs?
And here's something else. The problem of copying files directly from the CD v. installing with DOSBox is definitely about permissions. When you just copy the files (and this would be an issue for any *nix OS) the permissions for owner are read and write but for group they are read only. The group p...

Re: Exult on intel macs?
I'm not sure I can give any step-by-step instructions, mostly because I haven't been very methodical in what I've been trying. I would try to get it to work, get annoyed and leave off for a while and then try again and sometimes it'd be so long between attempts I could forget what I tried before. I ...

It's not on Intel Macs there's a problem making Exult. I have the same troubles on my PowerBook. Possibly I'm ju...

I don't contribute much here (apart from very rare bug threads) but I Andrea has a very good point. No game (despite the Origin motto) can make an entire world, just a part of one. A hint, if you will. The benefit of graphics that aren't anywhere near photo-realistic is that it's easier to take the ...

Re: SI spell book
I don't believe so. I tend to use quick save a lot. But I've found that, on top of everything else, it's possible to present the mandrake roots to Fedabiblio again and again and again. Will the last save that I have do? Otherwise, I could start a new game and do some teleporting to get what you need.

I've submitted a bug report on this but I wonder if anyone else has run into this. However, the only time I see the problem is the rare times I'm s...

Actually, it was. The first time I played SI I blasted my way in (with a powder keg) and didn't realize my mistake until the plot pointed me back toward the castle. By that time all the saved games from before breaking into the castle were overwritten and I had to start over. It's a stupid oversight...

OK, this is a little strange. I'm using the 3/12 Win32 build. I get the magic carpet and fly back to Britain and land between the Fellowship hall and the inn. Batlin comes out of the hall shouting 'Thief!' and 'Who moved my chair?' and promptly plants himself in one of the empty seats on the carpet....

Crashing while sleeping
With the latest win32 build running under Win98SE Exult crashes when I try to sleep, both in BG and SI. What happens is that I click on a bed or bedroll, I'm asked how many hours I want to sleep, the screen fades to black and then drops to the desktop. I thought at first it might be a corrupt saved ...

I've seen this problem, too. It's been in nearly all of the Windows snapshots since RC1. I can add a little to what gruck is saying. The second (third, fourth, etc.) saves don't go poof. They actually get saved but they simply don't show up in the save menu. Only the first save does. If you delete t...
