Re: How does this work exactly and how can i play the rest o
Obviously you've never really tried to play lots of old games using VirtualBox/VMware ;-) The advantages of DOSbox are: - Portable (i.e. not x86-only, as VirtualBox etc. are) - optionally emulates a slow/restricted computer (i.e. 66MHz 486 without SSE for example) - emulates CGA, EGA, AdLib, Gravis ...

Works fine here (just checked). Probably your drivers. Try setting the environment variable "SDL_VIDEODRIVER" to "windib" before starting Exult, this fixed some issues for me in the past (though it is probably slower). Or try lowering the hardware acceleration of your graphics ca...

Re: Turning chunks into png's
There's a command line option to dump the whole map into a (huge) png file. You could create a new map within exult studio, fill it with all the chunks (without adding anything else onto them) and then launch exult with the comman dline parameter to save the map as png.

OT: playing XMIDI files
Hi, I recently found some floppy disks containing lots of XMI's from various old games, including corresponding sample.ad (or similar) files. I still have an old DOS-based playback tool I wrote back then, which uses the Miles libraries to play these XMI files. However, since it's DOS based (and tied...

I don't know exactly what you mean by "hard" reverse-engineering, but I'm pretty sure that -- provided you do not circumvent any copy protection schemes -- reverse-engineering is legal. At least in the country where I live (and where the server resides). However, IANAL, so don't take my wo...

[slightly-OT] Game reverse engineering
Hi! I was recently thinking about creating some kind of centralized Wiki for game file reverse engineering stuff. It would be a good place for people to post their findings about game data files so that others might pick up the work and don't have to start from scratch. I, for example, already have ...

Re: 5.25" to 3.5" Backup doesn't install!
wjp is right, the files are just standard ZIP archives which only need to be copied together again. I did this once to get the data without "installing" the game. An easier option would probably be to make sure the disks have the correct volume label. IIRC they must be labeled "SIDISK...

IIRC for SI, you can safely delete the *.XMI, *.OFX and *.DLL files from STATIC/ as they were only used for the OriginFX screensaver. I could be wrong, though, so better back them up. XMIDI.{AD,MT} might also be unneeded. However, this will give you only a few kb's more (maybe 100kb) so I don't know...

What do you mean you tried to install it and it does not work? Is one of the disks bad? Or does the Install program give an error? You could try to unpack the files from your disks manually (they're simply split zip-files) Anyway, as Dom already mentioned, don't ask for warez here on the forum. Obvi...

I was just wondering what's the difference between the "jmsfx" and the "drbgsfx" sound packs. I downloaded drbgsfx some time ago and just noticed that it isn't available (anymore?) on the download page.

Re: Extracting Ultima VII data files from floppy
Hi, It's quite easy to unpack the data files manually. If you have experience with the command line, that is ;-) Well, the data files (SIDISK23 or similar) are actually zip-files split up so that they fit on floppy disks. The two numbers (2 and 3 in the above example) tell which part of which zip fi...

Hi,
Nadir, I really meant no offense when I said no one cares...
If you want to I could try to help you with localized versions. If you tell me what files are needed for TBG I could send them to you.
I think it should be:
usecode
linkdep1
linkdep2
maybe the .EXE file(s)?
Greetings,
