can't get exult to find u7 data in ubuntu

I am running Ubuntu 14.04, installed exult via the software center, and it seems no matter what I do, I can't get exult to recognize the Ultima 7 (black gate) data. I usually run it on a PC, but I want it on my laptop, as well.

I have found two cfg files in /home - ".exult.cfg" and ".exult.cfg~". Have tried editing both. The former does not have any path names listed, whereas the latter does (though I have to remove the "~" in order to edit it).

the path that is displayed in ".exult.cfg~" is /home/.exult/blackgate/gamdat. I put my BG files in that directory. When Exult loads up, I get a "can't find the static data" error. Where should my U7 data be for the software center version of exult for ubuntu?

What version of Exult is installed?
If 1.2, please download the source and compile it yourself. 1.2 is tooooooo old.
Then delete the cfg files and read the documentation on where you can put the games for Exult to find them automatically.

It is version 1.5, according to the installed entry on the Software Center.

"exult 1.5.0+svn20140828~ubuntu14.04.1"

I have looked at [http://exult.info/docs.php#Installing the original Ultima VII games for use with Exult], and I don't find anything about where to put Ultima 7 when running Linux.

That did it! Thanks so much. I really appreciate the help. I am a Linux newbie.

Maybe I should make the *nix more recognizable for Linux users. I'll take another look so it's more recognizable for newbies.
