Chaos Heirophant - Summon Shade

I can't seem to Summon Shade on the Chaos Heirophant. I have the "eye of serpent" and "Chaos Serpent Eye". I also spoke to the Balance Heirophant perfectly fine. I talked to the Chaos Heirophant servant (in the jail under one of the temples) and he left with me.

One think that mighta happened wrong: After the servant joined my party, I took the "eye of serpent" from him BEFORE he dies...Perhaps that causes this bug?

You can find several Chaos Hierophants in the burned-out building near the bank (in turn near the Sleeping Bull Inn).

Each is able to give you the scroll and warp away and everything, so I'm fairly certain they will work just as well as the real one.

I think the Chaos Hierophants in the burned out building 'bug' is something that has been worked around in Exult... I think... which means you can't talk to them anymore

I could be wrong though. Please correct me if I am.

It has been fixed in SI Fixes, but not in Exult.

Speaking of which, how do you get this to work in Linux or OS X? The directions say that one option is to copy the contents of the data folder to the patch folder for SI. And of course I've added a path to that in exult.cfg. There's got to be more because just doing that doesn't seem to work.

It is because the instructions are outdated and incorrect; it assumes that the 'usecode' file has already been compiled. Which means you will have to compile the usecode. To compile the usecode, you need UCC (one of the tools); then, just run 'ucc -o usecode usecode.uc' in the '/content/sifixes' dir and copy the resulting 'usecode' file to the patch dir.

Perhaps I could set it up to be built when Exult is compiled...

AFAIK Exult fixes that the ghosts in the mint (and later in the ice cave) don't initiate the conversation.

Kirben set something up for the SF island patch ages ago, maybe you can work with that somehow. IMO compiling the patches we have in CVS should be a compilation option, or at least an option you could start manually.

Yes. And (at least for automake/autoconf), would have to automatically turn on building the Exult tools (or, at least, UCC).

The ghosts near the mint (not sure about elsewhere) are definitely still Hierophants in Exult 1.2; I've never played this game under DOS so that's how I knew about them in the first place.

As for how to handle SI Fixes, why can't a precompiled version be yet another optional addon like the digital music?

I think this will be the case after Exult 1.4 is released.

Marzo, when I run ucc -o usecode usecode.uc in ./content/sifixes I get the error bash: ucc: command not found. When I'm configuring the snapshots, I'm enabling Exult studio. Is there anything else I need to be doing?

Are you building the tools? Is ucc's dir in your path environment variable (or in the dir you are calling it from)? If you are using automake && autoconf, did you do a 'make install' after?

Apparently not. I do all right usually if I've got reasonably complete directions (or informative-enough errors as when I was trying to get Exult just plain built in OS X) but this is looking like a case of needing step-by-step starting from the point after extracting the snapshot archive. Obviously the basics of

./autogen.sh
./configure --enbable-exult-tools
make

won't cut it where getting the mods to work and I don't seem to be seeing anything in the docs or faqs that are filling in the blanks for me.

Is the typo only in the post or also in the command line you use? ("enbable" instead or "enable"; I am assuming it is only in the post, though).
After 'make' you should have an ucc executable somewhere. If you have enough privilleges, run 'make install' and it will likely be in your path.

The typo is in my post.

I'll give it a try.

Well, that worked but I had to go into /content/sifixes/src rather than just /content/sifixes. Also ran into something a little unexpected in that after doing make install the digital audio wouldn't play until I added paths to data and data/music to exult.cfg.

Yes, sorry, that was my bad.

About the digital audio: was it working before the 'make install'? If so, was the path the same (including case, if your OS is case sensitive)?

Yeah, it was working before make install. And the path was the same including the case (when I build a new snapshot I just copy the music and sfx files from one data folder to the other), just not specified in exult.cfg before I had done make install (although, again, specifying data and data/music in exult.cfg let digital audio work again). But, yes, my OS is case sensitive. Well, I was doing this on Fedora (since for some reason I haven't get gotten ./configure --enable-exult-tools to work on the Mac) which seems to be case sensitive (I don't think OS X is) and the music folder, the ogg files, and the sfx files are all lower case.
