paperdoll question

Spark's paperdoll always bothers me, because he's just a kid, yet
he has the body of a man.

So just wondering if it's a hell lot of work to make a special paperdoll
for spark (and other children), or does someone merely needs to do some
art work?

I figured it might be a lot of extra work because maybe right now all
males use one body-paperdoll and all females use another body-paperdoll,
so now instead of figuring out whether a person is male or female, Exult
will need to figure out if it's a male, female, or child, and that might be
really messy.

or maybe each character has a pointer to a paperdoll format, so maybe
we just need to make a new format for kids and have spark's paperdoll
point to that format. then it'd probably be (relatively) simpler.

just wondering, that's all.

This question has been asked before, although if you asked me how many times I wouldn't know the answer.

>_<"

sorry, haven't noticed that discussion before.

Can it be filed in to the "to be included in the next update of the FAQ"
section in someone's brain? thanks (-:

if it has been asked before, has it been answered before? Does
anyone remember the topic of one of the threads that has the answer?

Thanks a lot

Noted for the FAQ.
The problem so far is that it is just tooooooo much work. Additional to all the stuff that still needs a paperdoll art (SI-Style) we would need also a children's edition for all of the existing (for most of it at least).
If you want to know how much would need to be changed start up a Serpent Isle game, go into the shape browser (ctrl+b), select the paperdoll.vga to browse (press v till it is shown), then browse it with the arrow keys (up/down selects shape, left/right selects frame of the shape). Now looking at it remember you want to do it for a kid...

Now you saw all the stuff that needs to be redrawn. Well, the next problem in the line is that none of the exult-team are that good with graphics (or even care enough about it).
Well, if anyone would do the art I'm quite sure the team would integrate it into Exult after the 1.0 release.

Personally I don't care about that so called problem. If you don't like how he looks so much, then disable SI-Style paperdolls or kick the brat out of the party.

I'll say now that IANAA (I Am Not An Artist) but surely the easisest quick fix for this would be for one of the resident artists to scale the art in photoshop or whatever. Howeveer i'm not sure if exult would then place armor etc in the right place.

No, it didn't. He's obviously very confused about what the term paperdoll
means.

The term 'paperdolls' is only used for the way SI displays its character windows.

We implemented them for BG too, but Spark is stuck with the (adult) male body that SI uses for all males, which really looks out-of-place for him.

I still have a lot to do, and I'm kinda lazy. So far, I have an improved Caddelite Helm and vastly improved Jaana head. I don't remember if I finished anything else or not.

Yeah, because in UO it also places the equipment -on- the character, like
a _paper doll_, thus the name. :P

go into gameplay options and disable paperdolls in bg and you see the difference.
