virtual 8086 mode???

I've tried to install ultima 7 on my computer it says "something has placed your computer in virtual 8086 mode, remove this to play the game" what is this i cant figure out what to do can someone help me?

i have no clue what that error means, buy wasn't the 8086 one of the original intel processors?

Don't use the original u7 (unless you use a win9x patch)... use the game data with exult. Read the FAQ. Install it. have fun. come back with good questions and avoid unreasonable requests. *smile*

Its because you're either have emm386 running in dos or are trying to get it to run under windows.

Yes, it's the processor that all modern day intel processors are based upon. Windows has no ( or at least seemingly) problem emulating the old process calls and emulates the dos kernel. However, the problems with the games that were create after more than 640k of RAM was standard is that they need memory managers.. most of the memory managers now directly conflict with windows' memory manager... producing problems. Problems between fat16 and fat32 or ntfs (*big smile*) may occur. I would actually be interested how much of this is fixed though abstraction layers.

If the warning came at the end of the installation process, then you can ignore it as long as you're using Exult to play. It's just letting you know that it won't run using its own code.
