I'm done...what's next?

I just finished Serpent Isle for the very first time!!!

What the heck?!?! The guardian just comes in and grabs me? what kind of an ending is that? what happens to my friends? what happens to the rest of SI? mostly everyone is dead, so it's not like I HELPED them!

also, where does U8 start? what's the main quest, and do you meet up with my surviving friends? is it easy to find? and can I play it on my Win2K system? I feel like I should start playing it right away after the way this game ended.

thanks.

ps. poor Dupre :( I actually felt pretty sad when he died.

congrats. The guardian decides to drop you on a different world in the begining of the next game with a very cool opening sequence, but you are alone on this one. Somewhere there is a patch to play U8 on windows, but I don't know whether or not to trust it since i use linux only now.

The U8 in Windows patch works great. Prepare for a totally different gameplay in U8, though... it's not a bad game, but some Ultima fans dislike it for its more action-oriented gameplay.

I've tried this patch a number of times and have never had working sound or it locks on startup at a black screen. Any definate ways to get it working?

I played it a few years ago by booting to a DOS prompt in Win95. It wasn't nearly as fussy about memory as U7.

I could never get it to work after upgrading to Win98. Forget it in ME/2K/XP (the latter two not having a proper dos mode anyway).

The U8Win patch worked fine under 98 systems. Haven't tried it in XP yet.

U8 doesn't quite match up to the 7's overall, but it's a great game if not fantastically implemented. Basically for the first couple of hours of play, hit air and jump around a lot to gain stats... Makes the rest a heck of a lot easier :)

Oh, and when you get to the entrance to the sorcerer's enclave there are two metal doors and one lever which makes one go up and one go down. Stand on the door when it's down then use aerial servant to pull the lever. Don't do what I did and keep flipping the lever stupidly and trying to run through the gate, causing the lever to break and the plot to get stuck :-D

this game is pretty annoying! it's really hard to get the hang of moving around. why did origin change the game so much if the previous ultimas had worked so well? i feel like i went back in time. you can't even choose if you want to be a man or a woman!

what 'til you play ultima 9, that's disappointing in whole new ways... (crappy plot, less interactive world, no npc schedules, boring plot... to me anyway, worst voice acting ever) I'm still now over it. Does anyone remember how ultima 9 was supposed to be the return of the "ultima 7" type ultima? if only....

Ultima 9 was supposed to "Surpass U7 in terms of World Interaction". Which it certainly did not. Forget about Ascension, Jessica, it's neither a real RPG nor an Ultima.

True, U9 was flawed, but I still liked it. Perhaps it's because I'm more of an 'adventure' fan, and that's basically what U9 was.

Anyone willing to part with a copy of U9? I'm unable to find one where I live and am not willing to wait a week for EB to send it. :P
