1.2 vs latest version?

I recently checked on Exult after a long absence and I noticed all the yahoo about the bug that causes items to disappear and will make a game unfinishable. I remember playing the game on 1.2 way back with no such bugs, and there did not seem to be all this talk then either, so presumably it was either absent or a lot less common in 1.2.

So I was basically asking generally how common this particular game destroying bug really is? Is it something thats going to happen maybe once or twice a playthrough at best, or is it something thats going to crop up again and again and again, forcing constant reloading from earlier save and constant replaying of areas you already finished. Would it be better to just download the old 1.2 version instead and avoid it, even at a cost?

I know myself well enough to know that I would be really annoyed to play 5 hours, only to return to some city and find that somewhere along the way half the items there disappeared and I had no warning. I would not want to replay 5 hours that I already did, again. Especially not repeatedly.

I realise ofcourse that even if this problem is absent in an older version, 1.2 probably has bugs of its own that have since been fixed, and is lacking features that exist in the newer versions. But are any significant for ordinary playthrough? Or are they all minor glitches that unlike the disappearing bug, don't break the game?

So basically, how bad is the bug, and would it be better to try and avoid it by going back to the older 1.2?

Thanks :)

1.2 had its share of problems. So much that we always wrote in the time before the rc1 to use snapshot.
The disappearing objects bug will probably happen. I'd avoid long stretches of plays abd when you leave a city, save, exit exult and reload to stay on the safe side.

Also, chances are that bug reports on 1.2 will just get ignored ;)
