Question on weapons

I am sorry to post this here. But I have scoured the web for weapons info and read my manuals on my Ultima Collection CD but haven't found anything of much use.

It has been a LONG time since I played any of the Ultimas (and I did play most of of them which makes this even more embarassing). Since I can't see the "stats" of a weapon how can I tell the damage output of it other than trial and error in combat? For instance how would I know which is better between a 2 handed hammer and the Fellowship Staff or a lLong Sword? Also how effective is dual wielding? I seem to remember only main gauches and daggers being effective offhand weapons.

I can't believe I don't remember any of this but keep in mind my RPG playing senses have been dumbed down by the likes of WoW lately... hehe

There are some good FAQs on www.gamefaqs.com relating to U7. Included in them are tables of such information.

Thanks guys. I glanced over GameFAQs before I posted but I missed that section of Dan's I guess.

But for my other question I still can't find an answer. How does dual wield work? Are certain wepons more/less effective in the offhand? I guess I am more of a stat junkie since I last played Ultima hehe.

AFAIK, holding a weapon in the other hand doesn't help at all.

But the Main Gauche is supposed to be a left-handed weapon, isn't it? Then again only the right-hand weapon is shown onscreen, but that doesn't mean the underlying mechanics aren't working.

I guess the easiest way to find out would be to make an NPC have a huge number of hits and then hack away with or without the second weapon.

Well, I guess someone else can do that. Me, I'm off to play U6 Online. :)
