can't install U7 - protected mode

My copy of Ultima 7 won't install because my system is in "protected mode." I can't understand this stuff about memory management and such. I don't know what software to use or how to use it. Also, once I overcome the memory issue, should I choose "No sound card" during U7 installation if I will be using Exult's digital sound option anyway? I'm running XP.

That is completely unimportant. The DOS configuration has no effect on Exult. Exult is manually configured by editing exult.cfg

Thats the whole point of Exult...the memory manager of ultima (for all those who don't know what it is it's the voodoo mem. manager...) won't allow the use of it in windows since DOS and Windows are built on different systems (winXP - NT shell, dos - scripting shell{I think}) so the manager is only compatible with DOS.... (i got carried away lol) so it's no problem this is what exult is here for.......

My face is red. Everything is working now. I'm very happy. Thank you, Exult people!!! I can't wait to talk to Chuckles!
(Why is my real name posted, and not my username? Now I have to be really careful not to ask more dumb questions...)
