This one's kind of funny. I'm not sure just what triggers the "right time" for the mandrake to appear, but you have to keep going back and asking the monk until he finally says it is. Then you can gather mandrake around the swamp on the northern side of the island.

The tides will only (as far as I know) come once, but you can acquire mandrake elsewhere in the game; it's only necessary to get it at Monk Isle for the spellbook.

In SI you don't really need much money. And if you have the Silver Seed add-on you can get the reagent ring which makes collecting reagents obsolete, save for quests.

What version of SI do you have? If you have the one with Silver Seed added then you should have a walkthrough for the silver seed part (and that one tells you where to find the ring).

He's asking if you have the SilverSeed add-on. It will say on the title screen.
You need it to get the ring.
If you have the Ultima Collection then you do. I think the walkthrough is with the documents on CD-ROM as a PDF.

Nope. Nothing in the CD is in PDF. It's in three formats: Windows Help file, Word Document, and plain text files.

The pdfs only came with the "complete U7" cds. Back then I even printed them out with the Adobe reader for DOS (mainly because multitasking on Dos was... oh well, you know)
