Exult and Mac OS X

Hi everyone. Please forgive me as I have no programming experience whatsoever so I am struggling with the some of the vocab being used, but that's ok.

I originally started playing Ultima 4 as a kid when it was first released for Atari. In 2000, I was excited to acquire the Ultima Collection (U1-U8) as well as U9 Ascension, both are PC versions.

I currently own only a Mac and no PCs, so I was saddened that I could not play anymore. However, about two weeks ago, I found out about xu4 for Mac OS X and have been thoroughly enjoying it.

Now I'm wondering if there I can play U7 and or Exult on my mac. If so, in very simple terms, could you tell me how and perhaps provide me with links to what I need to download?

I would be ever so grateful.

Thanks everyone.

Please, did you actually bother to read anything on this site? On our download page we clearly have adownload for Mac OS X and the documentation should tell you how to setup your system.

Although be warned: I've had troubles getting the OSX version of Exult 1.2 working on anything less than OSX 10.3.

There seems to be some issue between Panther and Jaguar that is as yet unresolved.

Yes. We've marked the Mac OS X binary as 'Mac OS X 10.3' for this reason. I can't quite remember the specifics of the incompatibility, though. It may have been added wide char support in the C++ library.

Actually, I seem to recall something about that. Silly little things are always the downfall, aren't they?

C'est la vie - the last Jaguar-compatible version of Exult runs well enough for my tastes (good job!). If I ever feel like upgrading to Panther (hesitant, because I'm not sure my G3 would take it, even if it is the last G3 ever released, and therefore the fastest) I'll upgrade my Exult too.

Hmmmmn...might just have to check it out, then. One of my lappies is a g3500, the other an 800.

A speed GAIN would be nice!
