Ultima 3 for Windows

I'd just like to take this opportunity to repost this from www.horizonstavern.com

Here it is. This is the unfinished test version of the game... as it has stood for about the last 18 months. What wasn't working then isn't working now. The game can be finished, but there is no combat, combat magic, or 3D-renderings of the dungeons. That still represents quite a lot of work, and quite a lot of game logic that does work. Please play with it and enjoy.

I am releasing this now because the project is about to be revived under the GPL. Steve Mariotti at Nihilistic Software (the people making Starcraft: Ghost) contacted me about my code and we are going to be putting the project up at SourceForge hopefully during the coming week.

Hints to getting this working:

- You must have U3 installed. If you don't have U3... the Ultima III files included with Ultimatrix should be enough.

- If you have any saved U3 games or characters, this version will work with them. Saved games are compatible with the original.

- F12 exits from in-game. F11 cycles tile sets. Other function keys (and the "O"ther command "Cheat") toggle cheats.

- If you enter combat, just pass time (Spacebar) to eventually exit. The monsters will wander around and die out at random.

- You'll need a torch for the dungeons, food to eat, marks for force fields... really, this thing is a working game. A game without combat mechanics is all.

- We'll be re-releasing again soon, probably as "U3Project" instead of Ultima III for Windows. The DirectX code will be moved over to SDL, so this will eventually run on Linux, etc.

Thanks for posting. U3 is the only Ultima I haven't played, so I'm looking forward to trying this.

Achile:
You need to use a savegame created with the DOS version of Ultima 3.
If you start a new game with u3win, you won't be able to move.
