I saw an UO server years ago, that was based on Ultima7.
Seemed very nice, but I can't remember what it was called and I can't find it on Google either..

Anyone know what it's called, and if it's still online?

Possibly Ultima Legacy at http://legacy.ultimainfo.net ... it was formerly called UDUO - Ultima Dragons Ultima Online and has been around since 2000 or so.

You could also mean http://sourceforge.net/projects/u7o/ the Blackrock Engine, that never took off

*cough* Someone has to be the spoilsport:

(From the UO ROC, to be found on the UO.Com pages)

ROC
16) You will not attempt to play Ultima Online on any service that is not controlled or authorized by Origin Systems.

17 ) You will not create, use or provide any server emulator or other site where Ultima Online may be played, and you will not post or distribute any utilities, emulators or other software tools related to Ultima Online without the express written permission of Origin.

^---- Meaning: If you have any account on OSI's servers, you might want to concider dabbling with "pirate servers".

Oh come on, you have to realize by now that they don't even care about that. I'd played on both for years simultaneously, and not so much as a warning. In fact, I can't think of anyone I know personally (quite a few) who have. It's one of those things that they say isn't allowed, but is not strictly enforced. So there's no need to post that message everytime someone mentions a private shard, really.

*grins* Rant all you want, I won't realy care. But since the EXULT team is so very strict on fair-play and doing things the way so that nither EA nor OSI won't be after them, I do felt it should be brought up. And if two people in two threads soeab about the RoC violations, I'll post it there. I'm sure you'd do it better next time it's brought up, aye? :P

That would be Legacy, which Warder mentioned up above, http://legacy.ultimainfo.net I play there as well sometimes :)

And WishStone, you make it sound as if people who play/run these shards are pirates or hackers, simply wrong. EA hasn't been actively persuing these at all, and they've been widely known for ages. Player run shards give people the opportunity to play on a much *better* server, for *free* (I'm referring to Legacy of course, hehe, there's plenty of others as well), all because they've paid for their copy of the software. Many people felt cheated by UO as it was, and deserve to get the gameplay they expected out of it, so they decided to do it themselves. Whats so hard to understand about that? You've made your point, which is respectable as your opinion, but you dont have to go playing EA's message boy every time a player run shard is mentioned. This isn't the official UO boards (or any type of UO/Shard board so this thread is pretty OT as well), so if you feel the need to preach about it, do so where it matters :)

I feel cheated as well that my SI disks have failed and I've since bought it again twice on CDROM.

Can someone now give me a location I can get the original non-ss disk version from because I've paid for it and expect my gameplay from it. It's not like it was mentioned on the box that once a months play has gone that I'd have to pay again each month to replace the media or anything. ;)

hehe, difference there of course. Shards can be run with software legally obtained, and working fine. You *are* entitled to a working version of SI, and therefore, if you had copied your disks when you got them, those copies would be legal for you, shame you didn't :P Now, if you made copies and gave them to someone else, then you'd have a problem, even if they owned the originals, it wouldn't be a copy of *their* disks (even though they're a copy of the original masters), and legally that's where you get snagged, the RIAA does it all the time with mp3's, you can have mp3s of a CD you own, but if the digital 'fingerprint' doesn't match the CD you own, and they've a bunch of ways to track it, then you're SOL. :/

I don't quite get the reference to the SI disks in relation to this topic...

There's nothing legally wrong with getting a copy of data/software you already have, whether it's from somebody else's disks or not. I don't know whether the RIAA cares about this fact or not. Now if your game comes with a license it may restrict you further. But NOUAL, are we? :)
None of that makes it OK to ask for disks here. There's no way for anyone to know if you are honorable, and the Exult team doesn't want to be liable or get the attention of EA by allowing those discussions. I don't know anything about UO.

What Wishstone said.

My point has been made. :)
