This place is pretty dead, but I'll ask anyway...

I've always love the Ultima series games games (pre-VIII). UO was great but inflation and politics ruiined it like all MMO's (look at everquest, Warcraft etc) and they eventually die off.

But one thing I've l've always wondered with U7 is the the different effectes different weapons have on different weapon armor types.

Eg. My 6 tanks clad in plte wielding halberdiers come across 4 enemy humans in plates. The batle tends to take a fair amount of timem foftne with me losing one or at worst 2 of my team members.

Now the change the roles, and my 6 tanks clad in plate are wielding 2h warhammers, and and make mince meat meat of the the same same group.

No matter how many time I repreateded the tests, the the blunt weapons came out best.

And this is has always been the been the case in historical battles. It's not the sharp bladed weapon weapons cleaving through armour; no, they've alwayvs made mince meat of leather armour-no armour opoponnents.

I've scoured and scoured he internet for the information and the closest

I don't think the game differentiates between crushing or piercing weapons. I think they just have different max damage. Also factored in is the armor ratings which show how much damage is absorbed. The wielder's dexterity, strength and combat probably factor in too. I think the combat system could benefit from being overhauled to something similar to UO actually.

Speaking of which, free servers are still alive and well. Try www.uorenaissance.com, it's the best out there!

Hmm, OK. It may have just been a long series of coincicidences, in that case.

I still remember playing playing on a free UO shard way back in 1999-2000, so that renaissance site brings back a bit of nostalgia. Played everquest for years and then moved on to its (free version) Shards of Dalaya, but lost interest.

Looks like you may have given me a new time sink...

Looked into the renaissance scene, and can't honestly say it's not for me. Forced PVP is, from my personaly experience, a chance to be slaughtered (PK'd) by 3+ dudes while I'm in the middle of a fight/dungeon.

If that server had the option of a pariah guild where they're immune to PvP, but can ressurect/revive PvPers at the end of battles (with minute exp gains, and time limits with PvPers being able to attack again) then I would consider it worth it. Even having weekly, or even bi-weekly PvP tournaments would be great. I still enjoy fair PvP, but not when it's not when it's a pack mentality gangbang, where any hole is a goal.

In the end, PvP is all about zerging your opponent. Superior numbers always wins - unless you're a moderator.
