[OT] The Maze in SI:SS

I just finished it... and was wondering, did any of you do it legitimately the first time around? I followed a map guide in the Silver Seed Manual... but I cannot imagine how many trial and error sessions one would have to go through to do it without looking at the manual (or hint guide)...
If any of you did do it... Kudos to you... you're more die-hard than me! =)
Reading the thread on journals ... I wonder how many maps were made!

I did it all by hand originally, it was actually quite easy... I just wrote down if I went left, right, up, or down on a piece of paper
If I got it wrong I'd just follow the same pattern until just before I broke it, then try to change.
I ended up doing each section probably 4 or so times, at the time I was around what... 9 years old? I don't remember any particular pattern, but some of the choices, it seems now, might have been fairly obvious, since I didn't have to go through nearly as many times as one might think.

Sounds good... I suppose I never had any time to commit (nor the patience)! I was 7, myself, when I attempted it!
I was always one for the easy option when it lay so close...

I myself didn't have the handy dandy maps... I have the U7 collectors CD which came with no manual aside from a crappy install guide. The maps and documentation were on the CD in some odd propietary format, and I didn't have a printer to print them out with!

No. This is way before the UC cd was released. This was the "EA Classics" release that had only U7 BG and U7 SI, both with expansions. It came in a cheap cardboard box with a paperthin installation guide. The manuals were on CD in a format similair to PDF. It was blocky and ugly and difficult to read in a beautiful 320x240 resolution.

I've got the EA Classics Complete Ultima VII and the manuals are PDFs.

Back when I was in high school, I stayed in the library after school and printed all of my Ultima PDF based documentation on the then new laser printer. Nice to have big black and white print outs of the Book of the Fellowship to put into a binder as opposed to the little (yet nifty) booklets that came with the original U7 and U7.5

Well, even if this is an older thread, a weird error has occured to me:
i finished the maze lvl 4, and still have no clue where to get the orb (i thought id get the purple orb here
but no orb for me :/ )
after reloading and doing the maze about ... hmm ... 5 times i was so frustrated that i *shame on me* enabled cheating and tried to [c]reate it but, ya know ... not yet available (im still depressed that i sunk deep enough to activate cheating at all
)
can you help me where to get this ruddy orb ?
Thanks in advance,
TyRooNe

Yurel has the orb. He's a cat-like "monster" on the second or third level. You can trade for it with some cheese.

he is not there
100% not
i scanned the maze for anything there (first without egg vision and then with it)
4th lvl :
the room i mean you reacch by going 3 down, 3 right and 2 up
there are a lot (13 i think) of "path" thingies (no clue what that means
)
i think he "should" be there
unfortunately he isnt
what can i do !

He isn't there for me either. Is there a way to get the orb without him through cheating?

Soul... could it be that weird Novell e-book format that was around briefly during the mid-90s?
