Recently, I have come across a magazine from 1991 that did a preview on U7 and in the preview they mentioned that 13 of the characters from U7 were named after U6 contest winners. Does anyone know what the contest was and which characters in U7 they are?

I believe in a special 8 boxes of Ultima 6 there was a metal rune stone representing one of the eight virtues. If you got this special stone and reported thos to Origin they took a picture of you and used it for one of the character portraits.

One thing I always thought about U7 was why did some of the portraits look like they were modelled from real people, and others just looked like invented drawn characters.

Ahhh, so they weren't named, but had their actual pictures taken. Wow, that would have been cool. Immortalized in the greatest rpg of all time.

I think the contest was in the Ultima 6 box, but the portraits appeared in Serpents Isle.

Remember that both Lord British and Shamino were modelled after Richard Garriot. Ever wonder why they looked so similar?

Of course, considering how old LB liked to sleep around, Shamino could be an illegitimate son. Heh.

What if things had been different and Shamino stayed king, with Lord British adventuring with the Avatar. All our adventures would be in The Lands of Danger and Dispair. We'd be walking among serpent shrines instead of virtue shrines. The avatar probably would just be the Hierophant of Balance throughout the series.

I wish Lord British travelled with the Avatar. Then I could shove British into the Cremation Machine so I wouldn't lose Dupre. >:P

If Lord British traveled with the Avatar, the game would be exceedingly simple, seeing as how LB is invincible. As long as they stayed away from plaques on overhangs.

I think it would make a really good article if we got more information about the contest and if we find out who the other people are.
