Ultima VIII - Pagan

Is there anything like this in development for U8?

I've noticed a bunch of stuff for 1, 4, 5, etc... but for sake of nostalgia, I was wondering if anyone has any plans for revamping Pagan.

Thanks.

Oh, in case you're thinking "what the hell", Baroque's patch doesn't seem to like WinXP (or maybe, just the two computers I tried it on).

U8 for Windows is very flakey in Windows2000 and WindowsXP. For me the game only sort of works. Sure I can run it, but if I enable music things become extremely unstable. Additionally, sometimes the somthing seems to seriously screwup with usecode events being triggered far far too often.

Of course, yes there *IS* something in development for Ultima 8. It's called Pentagram, and it's being made by a few of us members of the Exult team.

There is a remake going on, which is Exile, but I don't know of an actual engine such as Exult which makes a Windows environment in which it happily works (Ultima 8 in Windows still makes U8 crash often and sound can't be played, to mention just 2 things).

If you want to relive the Ultima 8 experience, however, I've got a site near completion about it at http://www.shiftedphase.com/~dino/ultima/uinfo/u8/, explaining loads of things in the game and fully illustrated with pictures.

Actually - I couldn't download any pre-alpha binary of Pentagram, not even the map viewer. Where is it now?

Great! Thanks for the heads up guys, I appreciate.

btw, Dino, if you're interested, I have a lot of old U8 stuff on my hdd from a page I used to run, but never fully completed. (I'm particularly proud of the Necromancy section).

hrhr, you've done it again, Dominus!
You made me laugh, though I really pity you for so many people ignoring your work.

What about giving a link to people who ask?

You need to read the phorum codes file, which is referenced in the top thread of this forum.

I've fixed your links

Exile demo

Going back on topic, for those waiting for the Exile remake, the upcoming demo has now been announced on the site. We will be giving out more details about the demo module soon enough, if you keep visiting the site for updates.

What if we don't? ;)

I am really looking forward to it! Do you think it will be out before XP1?

What do you mean by XP1?

I can't really say when it will be out. It all depends when we finish enough to release the demo. We've been working towards a demo for some time, and the announcement on the site is simply to say that we're working on a demo. It's impossible to say exactly when. We're making enough of the plot to a certain point in the demo. When we reach that, we'll release it.

The first official expansion of NWN was called XP1 until they gave it an official name some days ago(as the second, coming this year, is called XP2.)

It will probably be released in march and they are promising a much better campaign than the original one(will be the same scenario, but not related story-wise.)

Also there will be some new features for the tool-kit, like new wizards and such and some new tilesets(like a desert and some snowy place.)

I look forward to it, hopefully it will be as good as Witchs Wake(though getting NO experience at all for defeating enemies isn't that great. )

Don't you play anything NWN? Thought you would, working with that toolkit implies you own the game. ;)

NWN

Yes, I've played NWN, but I'm not following much what's going on around it. I'm simply using the toolkit to implement dialogues into the game, not following what is happening with expansions and stuff. I've tested the module too a couple of times, but I haven't played NWN much.

If nothing else you should at least try The Witchs Wake, which really is a great RPG-module. Don't think the official campaign is the best there is, 'tis the worst. :/
Ok, sorry now for getting OT.

I'm really curious how you design all those jump'n'run areas. I must admit I HAD some fun with them, even before the patch. But I won't miss them.;)

Exile & jumping

Even I liked the "jump'n'run" areas too. However, the majority of people hated them, and that's the main reason that we're omitting them from the remake. Exile should be non-linear, hopefully allowing liberty (if possible), just like Ultima 7. Of course, there are other reasons why we won't be having any jumping puzzles (e.g. there's no jumping in NWN, you can't enter water anyway, etc.)

While I didn't like the jumping puzzles i did like the ability to jump up on people's roofs and break into peoples homes that way. It made my avatar such a more efficent theif . . . wait a minute the avatar isn't supposed to be a thief.

yep...

Yes, I also loved that. I even tried to climb onto the hall with the entrance to the catacombs to try and jump out of the area... but it didn't work.
