U7 names: what ethnos are they?

Well, Moonshaders are Italians, this is obvious.
Like Medici (ever read Maciavelli on Florence history)?

U7BG has several Russian names - Nastassia (well, must be Anastassia)/Zinaida/Sasha/Tanya.

But what about Monitorians? Are they Saxon? "Renfry" is a known name in fantasy books, amazing but it is female one.
What about Fawn? Celtic?

Caladin is a last name, Brendann sounds like Brandon. Batlin is like Gatlin, a last name. Thoxa. hmm. I like to name my Avatars middle ages Saxon names, or Roman names. Fliend is a terrible name and I only use it for this site or for bad guy characters. Allyssad sounds like an Indian or Middle Eastern name(India Indian) and is not a female name. Fellowship members in SI have names like Scotts or Riggs. Batlin, like Hitler, is not native to his clan. Some names, RG or production team probably just made up off the top of thier head. Thoxa isn't really anything at all. Neither is Cabrius(UW1). Shamino is a bicycle, Shimano. Iolo is like Iolis on Hercules, they probably aren't from anywhere.

"Some names" came from OSI. Like "Tseramed" (Ken Demarest's last name spelt backwards). "Spektor", the treasurer of Monitor is obviously named after Warren Spector, and he even looks like him to boot.

Anyone ever tried to translate those names? Some of them sound as though they could have actual meaning - the Seminarium head, Fedabiblio, for example - something to do with books?

I heard a story that LB came up with the name "Shamino" when he was looking down at his bicycle gears.

I searched the internet for "Rotoluncia" and "Torrisio" - and found nothing.
They are NOT real Italian names, just looking Italian.

"Templar" is a Knight of Temple, the powerful knight order of Middle Ages destroyed by French king Philip The Handsome in early 1300ies.
The Great Master being put to fire cursed Philip and all his kin, and the House of Capetings ceased in 50 years after this.

Read Moris Druon's books on details on last Capetings.

Do not forget about Frigidazzi!

The french word 'frigide' means a sexually-cold person! You just can't make 'em like it...

I must say that she has nothing 'frigide' but the name... :)

Artaxerxes..
I think the Frigi in Frigidazzi more aims at the "cold" meaning of frigid.. After all, she is the mage who has a fridge <- (related word to frigid) in the size of other peoples houses. 8-P

In Russian too. So, I had lots of fine with this character.
Name the lusty wench "Frigidazzi" - great from Warren Spektor and friends!

Surely this is because she is a Witch Of Cold.

Another fun - "minet" in Russian is oral sex, and POP3/SMTP binary for good old Win95 "Inbox" was called... MINET32.DLL
