Items list in Serpent Isle

Just recently started playing U7 again with Exult (great job people!). The Black Gate is working fine for me, no problem whatsoever. But when I came to play Serpent Isle I struck a minor issue. The list that Shamino prepares of Items that have been swapped during the first teleport storm isn't updating properly.
I first noticed after I'd been playing for a while and I realised that half of the swapped items weren't on the list (most noticably the Fawn Amour). I started a new game and after the teleport storm (and before I met Shamino) I placed all the swapped items in the Avatar's inventory. Then when I got the list from Shamino I discovered that all the Avatar's items were now on it but Shamnio's weren't.
Its been a few years since I played SI on my old 486 but as far as I recall I never had this problem when playing it then and I'm using the same U7 cd, only this time I'm running on a Duron 1.2, Windows 2000, TNT2 Pro and an AOpen Audio Phantom AW200 soundcard (which is a piece of junk but the sound works fine).
I'm going to keep trying different ways of organising the swapped items, perhaps seeing if collecting all the items in the Avatar's inventory before checking the list makes a difference. If anyone else has had a similar problem or knows of a solution I'd love to hear it.

Oh yeah, I'm running Exult version 1.00 win32. I'm gonna download and try 1.1 to see if that makes a difference.

Funny what a bit of experimentation can do, since I've managed to answer my own question. Turns out that in order to get the Avatar's swapped items to appear on the list you have to put them all into his inventory just after the teleportation storm and before you meet Thoxa. Then when you talk to Shamino all of the Avatar's items will appear on the list, though Shamino's won't. His items don't turn up on the list until after you meet up with Dupre and he adds his own contribution to the list, which is the same case for Iolo. The only thing that won't turn up on the list is Devra's pair of slippers, which doesn't matter because you can get the swamp boots back (useless things) just by talking to her. So there ya go, not sure if this is a bug with Exult but I don't remember this happening when I originally played it.

The list would often be randomly updated for me as well in the original. Also, I could never, ever get any of the magical armor back from Fawn (not the helmet or the breastplate.) The list never got updated and the conversation options never appeared in Fawn.

I confirm the lack of appearence of the fawn armour in conversations.

IIRC, the magic armour is in a drawer somewhere in Fawn. The magic helmet wasn't in Fawn, but in Moonshade (Frigidazzi has it).

oh yes, it is there, but for some reason with Exult, I never can ask about the breasplate although I can with ultima. Maybe a random() problem.

I got the breastplate on the list, talked to the Healer about it and she referred me to Standarr. He told me that he made it for Kylista. This then changed the reference on the list to reflect that the breastplate belonged to Kylista, Priestess of Beauty and when I went to Fawn and talked to Kylista, she didn't ask about it and the tavern keeper wouldn't talk about it either. So there's obviously some problems with the way the list updates and how and when it changes due to conversations.

Also when Dupre shows up during the funeral I remember from the original that Marsten would make a comment about Dupre not needing the escort anymore, which seems to be missing now. Anyone else remember this or am I just going mad?

I do remember in the original not being able to get the magic armor back from Kylista. I think it was an original bug. I believe that if you don't talk to a certain person about it (can't remember who) then you can talk to Kylista, and she will say something like "Meet me later in the storage room to get it." wink, wink, nudge, nudge. In reality I don't think you get it back even if that happens due to certain plot elements.

Normally, Kylista will take back the breast plate and wont give you the magic armour. You need to steal it from her. Usually I don't even both asking about it, and just steal the magic one and keep the breast plate.

You can obviously never ask Frigidazzi about the Fur Cap, so you can never exchange it for the helm. However, I'm sure that Frigidazzi wouldn't mind in the slightest if you kept the Fur Cap and took the magic helm from her bedroom.

Hmmm.... is there a conversation in the usecode that wasn't activated for Frigidazzi about this? It would be another plot item to fix like the Cantra bug from the original.

oh boy... the more I play Serpent Isle the more bugs I find. For instance the Helm of Light from the Silver Seed makes it seem like Daylight all the time, though in the original it was only a very strong light which still left day and night distinguishable. Again, its not a major thing and doesn't stop you from playing the game through, but it was the small touches like this that made Ultima 7 great and if they could be fixed, would make Exult all the better for it.

Ok, I checked the SI usecode, and checked the game in Exult.

You can ask Frigidazzi about the Fur Cap. Here is how you do it. You need to have the Fur Cap in your possession. You then need to ask Bucia about it. You then need to ask Bucia about 'Other Mages' in the 'People' option. The reason for this is because Bucia tells you that the Fur Cap was bought by the Mage Lord, to be given to his lover. When you ask about other mages she the tells you that Frigidazzi is his lover.

There could be something similar going on with Kylista too where you need to ask multiple questions, which may not be obviously related.

yeah, I had no problems with Frigidazzi after talking to Buccia. I think Kylista just won't ask you for the armour if you talk to Standarr first and he tells you who the owner is, thus updating the items list to say that you've already met Kylista.

Just noticed that now the magic boots seem to be doing the job of swamp boots as well - walked right through Gorlab swamp and only the characters without them got poisoned.

That 'may' be an Exult related change. In the original they are not supposed to, but it's possible that someone changed things.

If my memory is true, magic boots in SI had the swamp protection originaly too. But not in BG.

I thought they did so in both games, and am probably to blame for making them work that way in Exult.

Well, then they should be impervious to the swamp also. Since they are "magic boots," they should have extra protection against various things including the swamp. Consider it one of those enhancements (at least for the Black Gate). It's not a bug, it's a feature :0P

"It's not a bug, it's a feature :0P"

*laughs* gotta wonder just how far you can get away with that

Extremely far; just look at Microsoft ;-)
