Ultima 8 for Exult?

Not that whats being done here isn't great, but I would love to see Ultima 8 compatible with Exult. I know thats a lot of work and I am apreciative, just wondering if there are any plans for this, or even a project like it that would allow me to play U8 under Win2k?
-Thanks

Print out copies of the FAQ enough times until they weigh a good few kilos. Then smack fools who don't read the FAQ with 'em. Should give the requisite message.

Well this goes back to my comment about being able to read, perhaps its not that we can't read but rather we don't have to patience to read anything larger than 3 sentences in length.
sentence number 2 means nothing
lets see if anybody reads sentence 3
well here is sentence number 4 and nobody will read it

I've read the sentences 4 and below! Does that make me special?

I would like to be not only a big fan of FEATURE REQUEST #1 but the blessed man who will implement it... Ooops! I forgot I´ve no idea about C++ language... [:-() I´d really like to see this wonderful game running like Exult. Although I think U7 is much better...
Is anyone capable to solve FEATURE REQUEST #1? Are you Darke or was it only some Colourless´ humour?
OH, MY GOD!! This post has no less than 4 lines!! Nevermind, it´s my reading addiction doing some mayhem on my mind again... [;-p)

DAMN!!!
Why am I always NOT here in time to write RTFM (against popular belief this doesn't mean "Read The F... Manual" but "Read The FAQ, Man!").
Btw, who coined this read the faq, man anyway?

"Speaking of U8, Im playing through it again right now, and it is perhaps the greatest example of good ideas going bad"
I figure I must be in a small minority of one, I actually liked U8 very much, but then I wouldn't call myself an Ultima "fan" since before I played 8 I'd never completed any of them, only later did I finish BG and SI.

Well since im playing it obviously i don't think its a bad game, what i meant was that it had a lot of good ideas but they were poorly implimented.
for example i like the consept of the avatar jumping, allowing him to move verticaly adds more interactivity to the gaming world, but they implemented it as an arcade style control.
and this is what was bothering me at the time a wrote that post, everytime there is a hole in the ground thats going to kill me if i fall in the avatar will do everything in his power to get in that hole, but when i wanted to fall into a hole the avatar refused and shoke his head at me.
by the way this is a test of whether or not its 4 sentences or 4 lines before people stop reading.

See what you mean, I was glad when they released the patch which at least made jumping less tedious ... forget what they did, was it the "point and click" method of jumping? ... well remember them being accused of creating a Super Mario game
.
"by the way this is a test of whether or not its 4 sentences or 4 lines before people stop reading."
Sorry, didn't read that bit

Yeah, instead of jumping a fixed distance in one of the eight 'compass directions', you can jump to any point in range after the patch.

They are *drumroll* screenshots from No Remorse and No Regret
Full titles are: Crusader: No Remorse and Crusader: No Regret. They're action games from Origin from the mid-90's, using a similar engine to U8.

about rtfm, of course it means "read the f...ing manual" but someone coined it "read the faq, man" after we had to tell people a lot to do just that

If anything, if the Exult team does anything with U8, I think someone should finish The Lost Vale
That would be a nice thing to do. I can get Ultima 8 Working under any windows system including XP, however in XP I can get music to work, but no SFX. But yeah, can somone finish The Lost Vale?

The Lost Vale doesn't actually 'exist' though. The only evidence is the few screenshots from it. If anyone were going to do anything they would have to create it all themselves.
Also remember this, The Exult team is *not* making Pentagram. All that's going on is a number of the people from the Exult team (wjp, Darke, myself) are working on various Ultima 8 engine technologies.

"Ultima 8 engine technologies"? *cough* I wouldn't exactly consider their
l33t credits/quotes encoding a 'technology', especially since it took three
people what, four hours effort to decode it? *grin* It may apply to other
parts of u8 however.

You can see all the information we have about TLV in my The Lost Vale page at
http://www.geocities.com/mitzenos/tlv/index.htm - there's info on that page and within the links.
Ultima VIII - Exile will make the Lost Vale. Our remake will include the many places on the world map that were left out, as well as the Vale itself.

hmm, TLV wasn't abandoned because U8 was rushed. Makes no sense as it was supposed to be an "Add-On". Add-Ons are for games that are already sold so they are even perfect for games that got rushed. Why Origin/EA thought it made no sense to milk the cow (=fans) further after they sold them the speech-pack is a mistery to me.
And come one, buying a speech pack that just gives additional voices for the titans in the game...
whatever...
Posted: Sun Nov 10, 2002 11:55 am

Well, whatever. TLV wasn't made because EA rushed Origin's development with other things. I don't know the precise details, but it was all EA's fault. :p
I understand what you mean by the statement being wrong, so what should I write instead?

Why not just write that? "It's all EA's fault!"
Seriously just write that EA pushed Origin's developement in other directions...

I don't remember where I read this, but I heard part of the reason Lost Vale was canned if because of the poor reception U8 got from the fans - thus they feared it wouldn't sell well and cancelled it (of course I have no idea if that it's true or not)
There was also a "talkie" CD-Rom version that was planned that would have included the Add-on and Full Speech (much like the CD versions of Privateer and Strike Commander), which was planned but eventually cancelled as well. There are some rumor even that the whole speech was actually recorded even though the game was never released (there was someone once that pointed to the website of a voice actress which had on her credits, the part of Shaana in UVIII...). Of course no way to know what's true or not here

Well... Has anybody tried to contact the makers of Pagan to at least get a more in depth description of The Lost Vale??? I doubt that they would provide us with that information, but hell its worth a shot isn't it? Anybody know if someone has previously tried to do this?

It is trivial to add full speech to Ultima 8. The engine was actually designed for it.

The only I've contacted about TLV was Amazing Dragon since, having written a fanfic about it, I expected him to know something on the plot. However, you can read the emails about it on my website. He didn't know anything about it. His fanfic was all taken from the shots.

It would be great if Origina or Gariot would release all thier files pertaining to the Lost Vale, But I doubt it will happen. Plus there is all ways the possibility that the "Screenshots" from it are nothing more than mockups like were on the box of SI. Of course I would be happy if they would even make U8 xp compatable. I tried U8WIN, but the program crashes constantly.

The Pentagram is aiming to make an engine which runs on multiple platforms, which is much better than just getting it to run under Windows XP or your platform of choice. What happens when you're running the next incompatible iteration of Windows ? You're stuck again.
Portable cross-platform support is the most future-proof choice, most of the time requiring very little effort to port to a new platform.

i think everyone just accidentally moved the discussion in the wrong direction. the original post asked a very interesting (to me at least) question: "Ultima 8 compatible with Exult". everyone seemed to read it "exult for ultima8", but i think it would be great if someone went and recreated ultima8 FOR the exult engine
