Upgraded to 1.5 - changing paths?

Post by John Smith »

So with great dismay I notice that exult too now stores all its data in the appdata folder. I'd like to change all the paths to how they were before but the exult.cfg I have looks all different to what it supposed to be according to the FAQ.

Mine goes like this:

D:\Ultima\Ultima7\BlackGate

(default)

jmsfx.flx

D:\Ultima\Ultima7\SerpentIsle

(default)

jmsisfx.flx

but the FAQ claims there should be /static and /gamedat and whatnot paths there too. Do I have to put them in there manually or what? This is all very confusing to me. I wish it worked like it used to the last time I played exult. I guess I could just copy all the game data into the appdata folder but I hate when games do that as my C drive is already full as it is. Somebody help pls. :S

http://exult.info/docs.php#path_config don't bother about the static path, but savegame and gamedat is important to change to your liking. If you want it all be where exult exe is just use the portable option http://exult.info/docs.php#command_line

And the reason why we need to use the appdata path by default is that on Windows Vista and 7 the program files folder can only be written to with elevated rights, so in order to run Exult the old fashioned way would mean it had to be run with admin rights. That's not good ;)

Ok, cheers for clearing that up. Friggin Win 7.

But I still can't figure out how to edit the cfg correctly. The new exult has separate folders for the FoV/SS expansions, but in my version those are in the respective BG/SI folders. An example config where I can see all the required changes would be really helpful.

Screw it. I just went with the portable option and copied the BG/SI folders into exult's directory. Seems to work fine on first glance.

;)
The distinction between addons and non addons games is only for people that have both. If you have only a FOV game, it can be writtin in the blackgate part
