Anyone who knows Underworld II relatively well?

Post by andar_b »

Is there anyone around who knows UW2 pretty well? I was a Wolfenstein 3D kid, not an Underworld kid, I struggle with the first-person melee nature of UW2.

I'm looking in to the possibility of an addon with Britain's underground levels, similar to what we see in UW2. Different in some areas, as though construction is ongoing in some places and changes have gradually taken place, but they are supposed to be only a year apart IIRC. Of course, no blackrock gem, but I'd like to include the Gobbies down there, perhaps some other creatures, maybe return the Mimic to Britannia, make it challenging for a fully buffed Avatar who's now stuck after the destruction of the Black Gate.

I'm thinking I could do the major construction while I bodge around with Usecode until I get an idea of how to make it do what I want. I'm most familiar with Ultima 7 and 9, but it has always bugged me how the landscape of Britannia changes quite drastically from game to game. Heck...the castle is quite different between 7 and UW2, in a very short period of time.

Actually the layout of the castle is the same between u7 and UW2, except you can't go to the sewers in u7 and not to the roof in uw2.

I thought it was close, but some things looked different, like the Avatar having quarters in the castle, the sloping throne room (plus missing throne), no nursery, and the larger foyer.

Overall, I suppose it's close enough to be a remodel, but it isn't exactly a simple matter to move walls made of stone. :) Must be magic!

As long as a wall isn't a supporting one you can quickly replace it, no matter what material used.
And sloping throne room could be in U7 as well, the engine just doesn't show it ;)
Generally it is so close that you can tell it is the same castle, including the foyer, the garden with the well and so on...

Nitpicking the Ultima games is kind of fruitless, the engines just changed, and thus cities and so on changed...

Any differences are surely consequences of "The Reconstruction".
