[17:53:43] <Dominus> Malignant_Manor: I have time now. yesterday was a bad time for having loud noises...
[17:54:11] <Malignant_Manor> Thanks, please compare before and after.
[17:54:25] --> SiENcE has joined #exult
[17:54:53] <Dominus> yes, first I'll listen to the original again...
[17:55:58] <Malignant_Manor> I just basically wasted a decent amount of time fixing something pretty much no one will encounter.
[17:56:26] <Dominus> what?
[17:57:05] <Malignant_Manor> midi_sfx but no digital sfx crashing and generally screwing up the audio options gump
[17:57:42] <Malignant_Manor> I wish we could emulate the adlib sfx.
[18:00:16] <Malignant_Manor> Now I get to build it without midi_sfx enabled so I can see if I screwed anything up.
[18:04:04] <Malignant_Manor> You say CoreMidi is only for MT-32 but wouldn't it still be able to convert to other types (ie gm, gs, etc) ?
[18:04:58] <Dominus> but what would be the point?
[18:05:27] <Malignant_Manor> Screwing around or just seeing what it would be like.
[18:06:03] <Dominus> yes, like stabbing a finger in your eye just to see whether it hurts
[18:06:18] <Malignant_Manor> Yes, people get curious.
[18:06:28] <Malignant_Manor> I'm sure some don't sound too bad.
[18:09:07] <Dominus> I can't hear any difference between the patched and unpatched version
[18:10:49] <Malignant_Manor> for the BG intro?
[18:11:07] <eviltar> what about the birds?
[18:11:40] <Malignant_Manor> The stupid cymbal noise or whatever.
[18:12:04] <Malignant_Manor> When the guardian is appearing and talking.
[18:12:30] <Dominus> yes BG intro, birds chirp and the blue/purple screen swoosh is the same not correct one
[18:15:49] <Malignant_Manor> Unless I screwed up, that should have fixed it for a real MT-32.
[18:16:10] <Dominus> that swooshing sound/cymbal or whatever is very similar in the Emulation of MT32 and how Exult plays on a real Mt32 (except for the wooden sound on the Emu)
[18:16:35] <Dominus> like I sadi Malignant, I couldn't hear a difference
[18:24:32] <Malignant_Manor> That's the bad symbols I don't hear anymore with the emu.
[18:25:01] <Malignant_Manor> It still doesn't sound right but it isn't hugely annoying.
[18:26:20] <Malignant_Manor> Not really a cymbal sound but whatever you want to describe it.
[18:26:35] <Dominus> your patch DOES something as can be seen in the console just not making it different to my ear http://pastebin.com/Sip8BhXX
[18:29:12] <Malignant_Manor> Yeah, at least it is using the right patch even if it doesn't do anything for a MT-32.
[18:30:47] <Dominus> hmm
[18:31:06] <Malignant_Manor> I have a nice test for you.
[18:31:14] <Dominus> uh oh
[18:31:18] <Dominus> I fear such words
[18:31:44] <Malignant_Manor> The intro should sound right. (this isn't played through Exult)
[18:32:11] <Dominus> ?
[18:32:52] <Dominus> which intro is in which combination right?
[18:33:31] <Malignant_Manor> play the sysex with your MT-32 then the intro
[18:33:48] <Dominus> I have no clue actually how to play this through my mt32
[18:35:41] <Malignant_Manor> I guess play it on with a midi player.
[18:36:18] <Malignant_Manor> http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/SysEx_mac/
[18:38:23] <Malignant_Manor> Oh,68020, 68030, 68040, or PowerPC processor
[18:38:38] <Dominus> yup :(
[18:38:51] <Dominus> and I can't make Quicktime to use coremidi
[18:38:55] <Dominus> BUT
[18:39:02] <Dominus> I'll fire up the XP VM :)
[18:40:28] <Malignant_Manor> http://www.snoize.com/SysExLibrarian/
[18:41:22] <Malignant_Manor> You could try the actual extracted sysex.
[18:44:21] <Malignant_Manor> u7voice2syx.exe extracts the syx file from U7INTRO.TIM, U7VOICE.FLX, and MAINMENU.TIM
[18:45:07] <Dominus> great the sysexlibrarian sends the sysex, I can see that the mt32 receives it but no music play...
[18:45:16] * Dominus kicks his system
[18:45:41] <Malignant_Manor> yeah, you need to extract the tracks
[18:46:21] <Malignant_Manor> INTRORDM.DAT is a flx file with the intro tracks.
[18:48:19] <Malignant_Manor> Maybe you will find this better than the ogg files or DOSBox for your listening enjoyment.
[18:50:03] <Dominus> no since I can't hear anything and have no clue how that program is supposed to work
[18:50:28] <Malignant_Manor> It doesn't let you read midi files too?
[18:50:55] <Dominus> it does but I can't hear anything... so no goal
[18:51:39] <Malignant_Manor> Maybe a real midi player that plays on your MT-32.
[18:52:05] <Dominus> tried to find one but couldn't
[18:52:11] <Malignant_Manor> Try to get it to work only if you want.
[18:52:22] <Malignant_Manor> It's not really a big deal.
[18:55:11] <Dominus> can't even find a free line in recorder...
[18:55:15] <Dominus> this sucks!!!!
[18:55:52] <Malignant_Manor> I'll try and see if I can find a nice way of excluding the MT-32 with CoreAudio.
[18:56:06] <Dominus> he he, actually quicktime DOES that (free line in recording)
[18:57:07] <Dominus> while you are at it... maybe you can figure out to display the midi driver as disabled (while keeping its settings) when the digital music is enabled (and vice versa)
[18:58:09] <Dominus> I'll make some recordings of how the intro sounds with/without patch, mt32 emu and the original on Dosbox
[18:59:09] <Malignant_Manor> It sounds muted in Exult.
[19:01:32] <Malignant_Manor> I'm not sure what SI needs for the main game midi tracks, but track 50 sounds much better in DOSBox.
[19:03:02] <Malignant_Manor> Wishlist: donated MT-32 and MT-CM
[19:03:13] <Dominus> :)
[19:03:24] <Dominus> recordings is not really working well :(
[19:03:30] --> Maggie has joined #exult
[19:03:44] <Dominus> to muted and too much distortion added
[19:03:53] <Malignant_Manor> plus good midi to usb cable and nice controllers (for windows and dos)
[19:04:03] <Malignant_Manor> Your recordings in Quicktime?
[19:04:18] <Dominus> but as per that forum post a couple of days ago, the intro does sound much different in Exult to Dosbox
[19:04:39] <Malignant_Manor> Except for the EMU
[19:04:56] <Dominus> yes, the emu does sound much different as well
[19:05:17] <Dominus> much is a bit strong
[19:05:26] <Malignant_Manor> I was thinking the EMU sounded similar to Exult.
[19:05:44] <Dominus> oh, you mean emu with dosbox?
[19:05:51] <Dominus> haven't tried that yet
[19:06:06] <Dominus> will do so later/tomorrow
[19:06:07] <Malignant_Manor> EMU with DOSBox vs EMU in Exult.
[19:06:14] <-- Morde has left IRC (Ping timeout: 240 seconds)
[19:06:22] <Dominus> ok, will try that
[19:06:24] <Malignant_Manor> That recording has the same problem as I fixed.
[19:06:40] <Dominus> right now dinner and gf time ...
[19:06:53] <Malignant_Manor> Well, will fix since I need to find a nice way to do it.
[19:07:05] <Malignant_Manor> Have fun Dominus
[19:07:22] <Malignant_Manor> I'm logging off in a bit.
[19:21:49] <-- Malignant_Manor has left IRC (Quit: ChatZilla 0.9.86 [Firefox 3.6.13/20101203075014])
[19:25:13] <-- ParuCodex has left IRC (*.net *.split)
[19:26:13] --> ParuCodex has joined #exult
[21:53:53] --> Colourless has joined #exult
[21:53:53] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Colourless
[22:08:27] --> Kirben has joined #exult
[22:08:33] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Kirben
[22:39:46] <-- SiENcE has left IRC (Quit: bye)
[23:38:08] <Dominus> amazing, with Malignant's patch the mt32 emu plays the BG intro much closer to the original than the MT32. We are doing something wrong :( But will have to confirm that it's not just Coremidi doing it wrong...
