[10:51:01] <Kirben> Hi
[10:51:45] <SharpTooth> Hello. <bow>
[10:52:49] <Kirben> Could you add another three updates to cvs if I dcc ?
[10:53:07] <SharpTooth> <nod> Can do.
[11:02:37] <SharpTooth> Done. They're in cvs.
[11:02:50] <Kirben> Thanks
[11:14:10] --> wjp has joined #Exult
[11:14:17] <wjp> hi
[11:14:23] <SharpTooth> Hello.
[11:15:18] <wjp> Kirben: I was just wondering, why don't you commit the updated files yourself?
[11:19:26] <Kirben> Last I tried I was denied login
[11:19:38] <wjp> strange
[11:20:26] <wjp> what are the contents of the CVS/Root file in the exult dir.?
[11:22:13] <Kirben> I'm currently using anonymous
[11:22:15] <Kirben> :pserver:anonymous@cvs.exult.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/exult
[11:23:49] <wjp> and you couldn't checkout the module using ssh?
[11:26:57] <Kirben> didn't last time I tried a month or so back but seems to be working again right now...
[11:27:40] <wjp> yeah, CVS has some occasional glitches. Most don't last longer than a few hours, though
[11:47:43] <Kirben> worked :)
[11:48:39] <Kirben> makefile.cygwin now requires mingw too
[11:48:47] <Kirben> just uses cygiwn shell
[12:00:21] * wjp nods
[12:00:39] <wjp> I guess mingw has less "issues" :-)
[12:00:52] <Kirben> hmm anyone know of native unix to dos utility ?
[12:00:58] <wjp> native for what?
[12:01:06] <Kirben> mingw native
[12:01:14] --> sethion has joined #exult
[12:01:20] <wjp> I generally use a small perl command
[12:01:22] <wjp> something like:
[12:01:25] <Kirben> u2d I'm currently using is cygwin
[12:01:27] <sethion> hallo
[12:01:41] <SharpTooth> Hi.
[12:01:44] <Kirben> mingw doesn't include perl
[12:01:49] <wjp> oh
[12:01:54] <wjp> right
[12:02:10] <wjp> so you just need a windows program?
[12:02:10] <wjp> hi
[12:02:37] <Kirben> Just something to add to makefile.win32
[12:03:54] <wjp> Avernum works in WINE!! Woohoo!
[12:04:10] <wjp> (after 10 hours of debugging wine... ugh)
[12:04:29] <wjp> hmm... there should be windows command line tools for that
[12:05:33] <SharpTooth> Kir: Is there any particular need for one? I could hack one together and add it to exult/tools if it's really necessary.
[12:05:36] <wjp> I guess the problem is that you get the files from CVS from cygwin
[12:06:04] <wjp> ...which makes the text files have unix-style endlines
[12:07:16] <wjp> well, not really "the problem", more "the source of the problem"
[12:07:44] <Kirben> It would just make new dist option in windows makefile more useful.
[12:08:21] <Kirben> So if I used another cvs client text files would stay dos ?
[12:08:32] <SharpTooth> For cvs, you'd have to flag the particular files as 'binary', and then commit them with 'dos' endlines then they'll remain as dos endlines.
[12:09:11] <wjp> didn't cygwin have an option to always use dos-style endlines?
[12:11:15] <wjp> (which would then affect the cvs client too)
[12:11:42] <Kirben> text mount ?
[12:15:06] <-- sethion has left IRC (Ping timeout for sethion[cs13p15.dial.cistron.nl])
[12:20:11] --> sethion has joined #exult
[12:20:30] <sethion> wjp
[12:21:41] <sethion> I tried to install the matching ncurses-5.2-12.1.mdk, using the -U tag, but it gave an error saying it had a conflict with the already excisting ncurses-5.2-12.mdk about 4 times
[12:22:11] <sethion> so I tried the same thing with the -i tag, and it said the same thing but then about 60 times
[12:22:28] <wjp> yes, -i won't work...
[12:22:35] <wjp> do you have the exact error messages?
[12:22:58] <sethion> ..no :( should I get them?
[12:23:46] <wjp> depends
[12:24:15] <sethion> (?)
[12:24:20] <sethion> (on what)
[12:24:31] <wjp> on how much you do remember of the error msgs
[12:25:28] <sethion> :) I'll go get those errors in linux then
[12:25:31] <wjp> bbl, lunch
[12:25:44] <sethion> bi5
[12:25:47] <-- sethion has left IRC ()
[12:34:59] --> sethion has joined #exult
[12:35:07] <sethion> wjp back yet?
[13:01:20] <wjp> yeah
[13:02:12] <sethion> these were the errors using the -U tag: file /lib/libncurses.so.5.2 from install of ncurses-5.2-12.1.mdk conflict with package libncurses5-5.2-12.mdk. followed by 3 similiar errors files: /usr/lib/libform.so.5.2, /usr/lib/libmenu.so.5.2, and /usrlib/libpanel.so.5.2 That was all.
[13:03:00] <wjp> oh I see
[13:05:09] <sethion> do you know anything to help this?
[13:06:03] <wjp> it looks like you should install libncurses5-devel
[13:06:10] <wjp> (which should be on the cd)
[13:06:30] <sethion> and install it with -U
[13:06:33] <sethion> (?)
[13:06:47] <wjp> -U, -i, whatever :-)
[13:07:18] <sethion> ok. I'll try that then. and afterwards try to install the new ncurses, and ncurses-devel (in that order)
[13:07:27] <wjp> nonono
[13:07:39] <sethion> ..?
[13:07:41] <wjp> forget about those
[13:07:47] <sethion> !
[13:07:56] <sethion> I need the ncurses-devel, right?
[13:08:09] <wjp> no, ncurses5-devel, apparently
[13:08:25] <sethion> libncurses5-devel you mean
[13:08:33] <wjp> yeah
[13:09:00] <sethion> ok. so just the libncurses5-devel from the cd. got it
[13:09:02] <sethion> and then?
[13:09:18] <wjp> then try kernel-source again
[13:09:55] <sethion> how
[13:10:02] <sethion> (I forgot)
[13:10:08] <wjp> rpm -i kernel-source-blah-blah.rpm
[13:10:32] <sethion> in wich folder was that?
[13:10:35] <sethion> on the cd?
[13:10:41] <wjp> yeah, on the 2nd cd
[13:11:01] <sethion> ok. thanks! I'll go do that now
[13:11:06] <-- sethion has left IRC ()
[13:22:32] --> Colourless has joined #Exult
[13:22:43] <SharpTooth> Hi. <bow>
[13:22:47] <wjp> hi
[13:22:48] <Colourless> hi
[13:22:56] <Colourless> kirben: do you want me to make all the files .txt?
[13:24:05] <Kirben> I have already, just make the installer recognise the extra .txt on them.
[13:24:45] <Colourless> i'll also remove the View's and use Exult.exe
[13:25:05] <Colourless> i'll also add a start menu icon for Readme.win32
[13:27:16] <Kirben> ok thanks
[14:06:09] <SharpTooth> Bye all. I have the strange urge to sleep or something. :)
[14:06:47] <-- SharpTooth has left IRC (Snoozy, sleepy stuff. Theoretically.)
[14:22:32] <Colourless> kirben: i'm almost done here
[14:22:54] <Kirben> ok
[14:41:01] <Colourless> here: http://www.users.on.net/triforce/install.zip it contains an new version of updater
[14:49:54] <Kirben> ok will use it with new snapshot
[14:49:58] <Kirben> new=next
[14:50:06] <Colourless> ok
[14:50:27] <Kirben> wait the address doesn't work
[14:50:45] <Colourless> try http://www.users.on.net/triforce/exult/install.zip
[14:50:59] <Kirben> thats works
[17:24:25] <-- Kirben has left IRC (System Meltdown)
[17:37:35] <-- chimera|wookin has left IRC (Ping timeout for chimera|wookin[208.187.252.98])
[17:37:50] --> chimera|wookin has joined #exult
[18:10:00] <-- Colourless has left IRC (Read error to Colourless[ppp419.adelaide.on.net.au]: Connection reset by peer)
[18:19:50] --> fingolfin has joined #exult
[18:20:29] <fingolfin> hi
[18:26:25] <wjp> hi
[18:43:34] <wjp> I got Avernum to work in Wine, btw :-)
[18:59:43] <fingolfin> cool! how?
[19:04:24] --> Superbeas has joined #exult
[19:04:31] <Superbeas> Yo
[19:04:43] <Superbeas> Has the rat races been enabled yet for BG
[19:06:28] <Superbeas> mmmmmmmmmmmm donuts
[19:07:32] <wjp> fingolfin: I patched Wine a bit
[19:07:46] <wjp> Superbeas: it used to work
[19:07:50] <fingolfin> wjp: cool! good enough to send it back to them?
[19:08:04] <wjp> I already submitted it to the wine-patches list
[19:08:23] <Superbeas> wjp: maybe I had an old screenshot
[19:08:25] <wjp> I wonder if it'll be accepted though. It seems to be a bug in Avernum
[19:08:33] <wjp> you mean snapshot :-)
[19:08:48] <Superbeas> doh
[19:08:53] <Superbeas> thats what i meant
[19:08:59] <wjp> ...but since windows handles the bug gracefully, I guess Wine should too
[19:09:24] <-- Superbeas has left IRC ()
[19:14:51] <fingolfin> wjp: exactly
[19:15:20] <wjp> it's just a sanity check in a windows API function. (just a 5 line patch)
[19:18:07] <fingolfin> sanity check is always good
[19:18:22] <fingolfin> after all, the goal is to allow to run as many win apps as possible, in a usable fashion
[19:18:34] <fingolfin> not to implement the windows API as it is in *theory* :)
[19:19:04] <wjp> you mean there's a theory behing the windows API? ;-)
[19:20:24] <fingolfin> no, but a documentation
[19:20:34] <fingolfin> that I call theory, as opposed to "reality" :)
[19:20:38] <wjp> :-)
[19:45:24] <wjp> hey, Matt's project Daphne is on the /. frontpage! cool!
[19:47:24] <fingolfin> really?
[19:47:27] * fingolfin surfs
[19:48:33] <fingolfin> neat :)
[19:52:57] <wjp> we should submit our first beta or 1.0 to /. too...
[19:54:30] <wjp> although that might produce tons of silly questions :-)
[19:55:54] <fingolfin> =)
[19:55:58] <fingolfin> even more you mean? :)
[19:56:20] <wjp> :-)
[20:31:25] --- fingolfin is now known as Fingolfin|dinner
[20:51:53] --> Dominus has joined #exult
[20:52:06] <Dominus> hi
[20:52:53] <wjp> hi
[20:53:05] <Dominus> wjp: any reason tha http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=458473&group_id=2335&atid=102335 is kept?
[20:53:47] <wjp> well, it's a corrupted savegame
[20:54:22] <wjp> and this specific problem (all NPCs >= 53 being replaced by 53) seems to have happened to more than one person
[20:54:54] <Dominus> okay, that´s that sewer or something that popped up for some persons in cove and beyond, right?
[20:55:09] <wjp> yeah
[20:55:09] <Dominus> so I won´t wonder anymore
[20:55:23] <Dominus> ähm, how is avernum?
[20:55:35] <Dominus> it´s a revamped Exile, right?
[20:55:37] <wjp> yeah
[20:55:52] <wjp> it's working under wine, although too slow to play comfortably
[20:56:20] <Dominus> but nicer than the original, I guess
[20:56:35] <wjp> I haven't played the original Exile
[20:56:41] <Dominus> :-)
[20:56:47] <wjp> but if it's anything like Exile 3, it looks nicer, yes
[20:57:24] <Dominus> I like spiderweb software - it was always so easy to cheat via an hexeditor :-)
[20:57:37] <wjp> hehe :-)
[20:59:59] <Dominus> I played Exile 1-3 and Nethergate - I really liked Vogels games
[21:02:03] <wjp> Exile 3 was great
[21:02:23] <Dominus> he put in a lot of depth into those games
[21:02:50] * wjp wishes he had more time to play games
[21:02:57] --- Fingolfin|dinner is now known as Fingolfin
[21:03:18] <Fingolfin> hiya
[21:03:28] <wjp> wb
[21:03:44] * Dominus thinks that Vogel would be a good person to develope a standalone game based on the Exult engine
[21:03:48] <Dominus> hi Fingolfin
[21:04:03] * Fingolfin is an exile/avernum fan, too
[21:04:06] <wjp> he should consider moving to SDL :-)
[21:04:14] <wjp> I want a native Linux version! ;-)
[21:18:39] <Dominus> http://www.lumthemad.net/shepherd/gameprd1.htm :-)
[21:21:50] <Dominus> that one is really funny
[21:24:46] <wjp> hehe :-)
[21:25:54] <Dominus> oh, Fingolfin, that Lego movie was fun
[21:26:36] * Dominus notes that he would like to be a little boy again - all that great Playmobil and Lego stuff they have nowadays
[21:27:07] <wjp> not to mention the tons of free time you have to actually play some games :-)
[21:27:19] <Dominus> oh, right!
[21:32:07] <Fingolfin> yeah! :)
[21:35:56] <wjp> *sigh* weekend's over again...
[21:36:05] <wjp> g'night :-)
