[00:00:57] * Baastuul is suddenly possessed by an uncontrollable urge to throw a banana at Elizabeth.
[00:01:00] * Baastuul throws a banana at Elizabeth.
[00:01:05] * Baastuul screeches and hollers and wails.
[00:04:38] <Elizabeth> are you done with school for the summer?
[00:04:44] <Elizabeth> finals just ended here
[00:04:51] <Elizabeth> graduation day was today for a lot of ppl
[00:05:01] <Elizabeth> now the area is going to get nice and quiet
[00:05:02] <Elizabeth> lol
[00:05:32] <Baastuul> My spring semester ended on May 12, but I began a summer class on May 17.
[00:05:39] <Baastuul> It'll be done on the 23rd, so next Friday.
[00:08:36] <-- shazza has left IRC (Connection timed out)
[00:11:28] <-- Darke2 has left IRC (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
[00:12:37] <Elizabeth> ah youre on the semester system
[00:12:39] <Elizabeth> kewl
[00:12:42] <Elizabeth> its quarters here
[00:12:54] <Elizabeth> our summer session starts in a week
[00:13:21] <Baastuul> :O
[00:13:44] <Baastuul> Yeah, we have a fall term, January term (which is just three and a half weeks long or so), and then spring term.
[00:13:54] <Baastuul> Summer term is just an optional thing for people who want to get ahead a little bit.
[00:14:09] <Baastuul> The sucky thing about the summer term is that my scholarship doesn't cover it, so it's all out of pocket expense.
[00:14:20] <Baastuul> (My scholarships is $10,000 per year.)
[00:14:24] <Baastuul> scholarship*
[00:22:49] <Elizabeth> january term?
[00:22:53] <Elizabeth> wtf is that
[00:23:05] <Elizabeth> lol i always took summer erm
[00:23:05] <Elizabeth> term
[00:23:14] <Elizabeth> and it still took 5 years to grad
[00:23:22] <Elizabeth> my major had a lot of coursework
[00:23:27] <Elizabeth> I graduated with 270 units
[00:23:30] <Elizabeth> norm is 180
[00:23:31] <Elizabeth> lol
[00:24:11] <Baastuul> January term, or "Jan term" as everybody calls it, is just a quick term in January that's like a short summer term. I took a class about Tolkien this past January. It was my only class of the month. It lasted from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM, I believe.
[00:32:56] <Elizabeth> wtf
[00:33:04] <Elizabeth> oh
[00:33:05] <Elizabeth> lol
[00:33:11] <Elizabeth> I was thinking 12:30am
[00:33:53] <Elizabeth> so what can you take in that term? anything of substance? like a science course? I mean that seems way too short of a time to learn anything real
[00:34:00] <Elizabeth> but I guess if you only take one course
[00:34:03] <Elizabeth> then maybe
[00:34:12] <Elizabeth> but still to really let it get into your head
[00:34:28] <Elizabeth> a longer time spent would be better Id think
[00:36:41] <Baastuul> You can take stuff of substance, but my advisor suggested I take the Tolkien class because my fall term was kind of a heavy load.
[00:36:49] <Baastuul> She also taught the class too. :p

[09:13:20] <Baastuul> Hail!
[09:21:37] <servus> Brymstone!
[09:23:43] <weedar> Increased humidity and possiblity for rain
[09:26:20] <servus> .
[09:30:26] <Baastuul> Hmmm!
[09:30:27] <Baastuul> It is said of the angel of death that he is full of eyes. In the hour of death he stands at the head of the departing one with a drawn sword, to which clings a drop of gall. As soon as the dying man sees the angel, he is seized with a convulsion and opens his mouth, whereupon the angel throws the drop into it.
[09:30:32] <Baastuul> This drop causes his death; he turns putrid, and his face becomes yellow ('Ab. Zarah 20b; in detail, Jellinck, "B. H." i. 150; on putrefaction see also Pesi?. 54b; for the eyes compare Ezek. i. 18 and Rev. iv. 6).
[09:30:36] <Baastuul> The expression "to taste of death" originated in the idea that death was caused by a drop of gall ("Jew. Quart. Rev." vi. 327).
[09:33:27] <servus> Letum issium Baastuul
[09:38:59] <weedar> But doesn't the body produce gall?
[09:39:09] <Baastuul> Depends on your usage of the term.
[09:39:23] <Baastuul> A more obscure usage of the term means that it was the poison hemlock.
[09:39:39] <Baastuul> There are quite a few definitions of the word, actually.
[09:39:40] <weedar> gall can mean hemlock?
[09:39:52] <Baastuul> http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/gall
[09:40:18] <Baastuul> Yes, but in an obscure way. It's best not to apply the word in that sense in common usage.
[09:40:58] <Baastuul> It doesn't mean "hemlock," per se, but refers to a poisonous plant.
[09:41:14] <Baastuul> (At least in the Biblical Hebrew texts.)
[09:45:13] <servus> I thought gall was a human glandular secretion :)
[09:47:07] <Baastuul> 'Tis
[09:47:16] <Baastuul> Like I said, there are numerous definitions!
[09:48:09] <servus> I see, we're going to play death's-sword-in-the-mouth.
[09:53:59] <weedar> That doesn't sound safe

[15:05:08] <cedric> hi
[15:07:12] <cedric> I'm still having some issue with the cvs snapshot and memory allocation under my embedded device, how can I provide some debug information before it craches?
[15:11:11] <cedric> with 160M of memory is not enough
[15:15:27] <wjp> 160Mb? hm, that should be plenty
[15:18:17] <cedric> yep with 128M with exult 1.2, it was fine
[15:20:54] <cedric> exult haven't run the first time, so it hasn't built a config file or any game yet...
[15:27:29] <wjp> did it output anything at all to stdout/stderr?
[15:29:04] <cedric> Exult version 1.4.01cvs
[15:29:04] <cedric> Built at: May 20 2006 16:14:41

[15:29:07] <cedric> what(): St9bad_alloc
[15:29:09] <cedric> Aborted
[15:29:32] <cedric> that's it...
[15:31:00] <wjp> can you run exult in gdb?
[15:31:46] <cedric> on a xscale platform?
[15:32:08] <cedric> not sure
[15:36:38] <cedric> any other way?
[15:38:46] <wjp> you could always trying adding lots of printf statements in the startup code to try and pinpoint where it crashes
[15:38:52] <wjp> s/trying/try/
[15:38:59] <-- pwr has left IRC (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
[15:39:50] --> pwr has joined #exult
[15:44:48] <cedric> I'm compiling gdb for arm
[16:03:49] <cedric> ok wjp are u still here?
[16:03:56] <wjp> yes
[16:05:36] <cedric> dpath = /usr/bin/data
[16:05:36] <cedric> Could not find 'exult.flx' anywhere.
[16:06:24] <wjp> where did you install exult.flx and the other data files?
[16:06:34] <cedric> I've got in /usr/share/exult/data
[16:06:59] <cedric> done a symbol link in /usr/bin
[16:07:03] <cedric> and nothing...
[16:07:56] <wjp> do you have a config file that has the wrong data directory in it?
[16:08:04] <-- Corvus has left IRC ("Quit")
[16:08:29] <cedric> no config file, exult should create one by default no?
[16:08:53] <wjp> well, yes; did it?
[16:09:02] <wjp> ~/.exult.cfg
[16:09:02] <cedric> nope
[16:10:25] <cedric> I know but it doesn't generate one...
[16:14:40] <wjp> try running exult from /usr/share/exult for now
[16:18:12] <cedric> I've created a simple config file with the "data_path"
[16:18:22] <cedric> and it's fine now
[16:18:49] <cedric> just complaining about SDL, just need to configure the screen definition...

[17:00:15] <cedric> and I'm getting that --> Unable to initialize SDL: No available video device
[17:00:49] <-- Corvus has left #exult ("Quit")
[17:01:24] <cedric> where do u specify the "bpp"
[17:05:03] <cedric> in pentagram it's fine with 320x240x32
[17:05:23] <cedric> it doesn't work with 320x240x16
[17:41:50] <wjp> "u" can't specify the bpp for unscaled modes actually, I think
[17:42:05] <wjp> it's probably trying to get an 8bpp mode
[18:07:02] <cedric> so what's the work around?
